Most/all manticores do, but tanking Kirin has shown to me that either:

    A) Magic damage taken- does not reduce damage from heat breath
    or
    B) the reduction from magic damage taken- on heat breath is applied before the cap is

Yea I think every Manticore's Breath is capped at 500 damage. It's breath damage though, which is a third type of damage taken. (Physical, Magical, Breath.) This means "Magic Damage Taken-x%" doesn't apply to breath attacks. If relic GAX aftermath is "Damage Taken-x%", you'll notice a decrease in Manticore breath. If GAX aftermath is "Physical Damage Taken-x%" you won't see a reduction in damage.

    Odd Notes about this.
-Fanatic's Drink annuls damage from Physical and Magical sources, but not Breath.
    -KB's Kickout is breath damage~

I MIGHT have a SS but I don't think so - last nyzul I did F20 I ate kickout with fan drink and only got blinded.

I'll look, but no promises. I'm 0/25+ on askar feet so I'll keep trying to flail behemoths for a SS.

Still did damage on me, which is how I figured it out was breath type. Completely random, but I was looking for a reason to share that info for like 3 months! Needs moar "Random Fact" thread~

    sweet, a puk wing!

For some reason, I thought Breaths only surpassed MDB, but MDT would work since Omega's magic resistance applied to Heat Breath from a BLU. It makes more sense that it wouldn't though, given the -Breath damage items in the game.

3 dd just make it that much easier with the same idea. (2 mnk, sam etc any combo works tbh. i'm just partial to mnk/nin + sam/drg + random decently geared dd)
I prefer drg for BR, or SSR personally, since gear are weak to pierce drakebane hits dam hard on them and angon helps with boss and NMs very well, sam mnk drg works for it for it sure in my experience.
Also if not mentioned already make sure your thf or whoever doing pulls uses a low a delay RA attack for 10 gears pull as possible to help avoid links.

The most obscure fact that I can think of:
Die by the Sword (Fei'yin BCNM30) involves evil weapon monsters that switch damage type susceptibilities (ankh = blunt, polearm = piercing, sword = slashing), but they occasionally all use a "dust-cloud" 2-hour animation that makes them susceptible to everything including magic until the next weaponskill.
I still don't know how to trigger it and had somewhat resolved that it wasn't triggerable, but it probably is.

Also, as far as Tomahawk goes.
There are a few notable things that Tomahawk is good for: Dynamis - Xarcabard, slime monsters, hecteyes, Wyrms, Temp (meh, 25% damage is still shitty). 2 WARs with capped Tomahawk give BLMs +25% damage on Tiamat.
Savagery is better than no-Savagery, but it's +25TP to other party members and +50TP to yourself for 40 seconds.

Couple of questions about RDM nuking gear... Hands: Cobra Unit Gloves or Duelist's Gloves and Errant or Cobra Unit on the legs? I'm new to this whole RDM stuff so yeah. Don't have access to anything better atm. Thanks guys.

I had a random fact I wanted to post a few months ago but there wasn't an appropriate thread to do so, so I figured I'd wait until there was a thread that came up in which it would be relevant to mention, but now I can't remember what it was so it might be lost forever. That's why I think we should have one lol

The Tiamat tomahawk thing makes sense is if it's a 50% shell-type damage cut rather than MDB which I can't remember if we ever established. (Quick Draw does full damage when unresisted, right?)

Errant cuffs if you don't have better rare/ex alternatives. Duelist's if you don't have the space/gil. Genie gages are another AH-able option for a resist set, but cost a bit more.

Errant legs > Cobra by far.

Actually I was just reminded of something. I don't often fight Tiamat anymore, so can anyone tell me if I'm remembering right. Quick Draw does full damage, but Netherblast does half damage? And if not, which of those is wrong?

I can't remember if we ever did try it on Tiamat. I think we just assumed he was -50% Magic Damage taken rather than +100MDB. I know we had at least one guy with 5/5 Tomahawk, but he might have been on summoner or corsair most of the time.

Okay, so here's what's interesting about that. Mobs' magic damage reductions come from two potential sources, as many already know, MDB and what we call TMDA (shell-type) reduction. Tiamat takes ~50% damage from magic meaning it either has MDB of around +100, or TMDA of around -128/256, or some component of both. (It also has a similar x/256 cut to ranged damage, I believe, but that's only going by what others have said, I've never verified.)

Quick Draw ignores TMDA, which suggests that Tiamat's damage reduction takes this form, since QD does full damage to it. However, evil weapon mobs also have a 224/256 TMDA value. And yet, both QD and Nether Blast do full damage to evil weapon mobs (the low-level ones with no MDB, anyway--Nether Blast did 508 damage to both a bee and a weapon by a crag when I verified this last spring)--while other forms of magic that are affected by that term still take the cut. This indicates that Nether Blast ignores TMDA--and so should do full damage on something like Tiamat if that was the only thing going on.

So there's something strange going on with Nether Blast. Breath damage does full damage to those weapons, perhaps it's breath damage? (Seems unlikely though since it's affected by MAB/MDB). Or maybe since it says in the description (if I'm remembering right) that it "delivers a ranged attack that does magic damage" or something to that effect, that it is in some sense calculated as ranged attack for the purposes of ranged damage cuts? Any thoughts?

Is Salverous Gale(sp?) also a breath attack? From my experience I'm almost positive it is. I've taken 100~ gales and I've also taken a 2.8k Gale.
