Thorny if you honestly don't think PLD is the best or one of the best tanks for most of the HNMs and other fights then you're a complete idiot. Like Demosthenes11 said, not everything is going to have full alliances I'd love to see a SAM out tank a PLD with only a RDM healer.
I don't get how you think third eye is really that helpful, if I'm not mistaken you only get one block with it unless you have Seigan up which has its downside of making your casts longer. PLD have many JA's for survivability that SAM can't match like Rampart for getting hit by any huge magic bursts of damage. Plus they have a lot more ways of getting hate. If a SAM can't hit it how are they going to keep it on them? They won't, can't always rely on another DD to hold it for you. I in all honestly don't have an atonement set for my tank set because I tank PLD/RDM for pretty much everything so I don't even use it to keep hate unless I get the TP from getting hit.
But seriously I would love to see a SAM tank as well as a PLD in any harder hitting fight or a low man.
I've seen NINs tank Dark Ixion, idk who told you they can't.
Where is a good place to test static magical damage, if such a place exists?
Can easily solo tank a number of HNMs as sam with just a rdm healer, the ones you can't you'd be unlikely to be meleeing with pld which wasn't the point that was made.
Third eye is to be used when shadows get wiped and ni is down to allow you to get ichi back up, other than that its exactly the as cycling utsusemi with any other job which isn't hard to do.
The entire fucking point was that this only applies to targets you can melee, anything you can melee you can easily generate enough hate to be constantly hitting the VE cap.
Why? This is extremely retarded, if you are trying to say /rdm is superior in any practical way for straight tanked fights then ->
What sort of fights? Low man tiamat is probably the most unsuitable for a SAM to tank but everything else there should be no issues with.
Why? Do you understand how enmity works?
For a Lv75 bard, is it important to have CHR+ gear specifically to land enfeebles or will just using my skill+ gear be sufficient? I've always heard that no matter how much CHR you stack, there's really no difference in landing debuffs, which I can kinda see. For example, sometimes I'll quickly throw a debuff on something in my skill+ gear and have it land where my CHR+ gear failed a few times prior.
I thought it was implied fairly obviously. /rdm is not superior to /nin in terms of enmity because you are constantly taking damage which lowers your CE which can be avoided by not taking damage when subbing /nin. Both subjobs should easily be able to constantly reach the VE cap. The only factor that will vary is the regularity with which you reach the VE cap, /rdm will cast more often and therefore reach it more often, but /nin you already have flash on a 22 second timer and enough mp to be cure swapping atleast once between each flash, also casting enmity generates some VE.
e.g. Sam and Pld cotanking random HNM, Sam does WS for 1,000 and takes hate, pld recasts shadows and the small amount of enmity you get from casting it turns the HNM back onto the pld.
/rdm is fun and does have practical applications against melee'd targets (Sarameya is only one that comes to mind as it hits too fast to make good use of utsusemi) but the arguement can always be made that if it can't be blink tanked it is better tanked by a /sam melee (DRK, DRG, WAR all work but sam is favoured due to the attack boost on Y/G/K).
PLD/RDM can keep hate pretty easy.
