I think I may just trash it and get a new one, but I'd only have about $400-500 to spend, I know that's pretty low end, but any recommendations? It'd be pretty much evenly split usage-wise between PS3/360 gaming and watching hockey/football, so not sure what to take away from the plasma vs. LCD discussion above.
You could easily get something in the 32-37" range for that amount, but if I were you I'd save just a little and get a 720p 40". At that size you won't really notice much difference between 720 and 1080 and it'll be noticeably larger then a 1080 32". I think it would be worth saving a little bit for, it's not like you buy TV's everyday.

I can say first had that this screen is really really nice:

My friend has this one and it looks very sharp, but it's 175 dollars above your range. If you want some suggestions more in your price range I can offer a few, but if I was you I'd just save a little extra.

Thanks, we were actually able to hulk the big one with just the two of us w/o breaking it somehow, but I'm now living rent-free so saving for a real TV for when I move back out of home again is tops on my list, going to bookmark that one.

So I've been looking for a good deal on a cheaper HDTV. 32" is really the best size for my room, since it's the right size for me to see properly from across the room, and it's really the biggest TV I could fit comfortably.

I had considered just buying something cheap like the Dynex, but figured it just wouldn't be worth it.

Panasonic 32" Viera X1 Series LCD 720p HDTV
I just recently saw this deal from Sears, and this price cut bring it down to about what the Dynex would be (which is the cheapest 32" available pretty much), but its a substantially better TV.

I'm thinking about grabbing it up now, rather than waiting for Christmas time to roll around. (Was hoping to get one from the parents, or at least some money towards one)

Thoughts? From people who know more about this than me.

Oh, primary uses would be playing DVDs and 360. Room has good light, but no direct light on the set where it's placed.

My local Sears had a deal I absolutely couldn't pass on. I got a 50" Samsung 650 series 1080p plasma for $800. It's absolutely fucking incredible. After talking to half a dozen of the TV guys there I had decided against the Samsung and to a cheaper Panasonic but when I went back later that day to buy it with the wife, another sales guy helped get me Samsung for an even better deal than the Panasonic.

I didn't research anything below 42" so I'm not as informed as others might be on this TV. From the reviews I read people seem to think it's a good deal but I have no first hand or extensive knowledge of this TV or what's good in the 32" size range.

My friend bought that exact TV, and for it's size/resolution, it's amazingly cheap for it's PQ and performance. Pretty much all the panasonic plasmas are right now.
