    Mortal Online MMO

Just wondered how many others are currently playing the beta and what your thoughts are on it.

The combat system is pretty much Oblivion based, you have to manually shoot bows and cast spells, melee is 1st person view with a variety of weapons. The game has a over 140 MILLION different weapon material combinations (crafting in the game is pretty epic)

There is no level, you have skills that you increase Oblivion style, mining rocks increases Strength, lumber jacking increases dex etc.

So far i'm loving it, thoughts?

Yeah it's in beta stage - block D atm, think it goes up to Block E then they'll add everything else and it goes live.

It looks like in order to get into the beta you have to purchase the game, and even then it's a first-come-first-serve basis. o.O

I made a thread for this months ago when it started and still haven't gotten an invite. I guess that's why, if it's true then that's stupid.

The reason for it is that it's a new company and very small in comparison to other MMO's so they need the cash injection.

Saying that the game is coming along really fast, we get a major content patch every 2 weeks and the server very rarely crashes now. The NDA gets lifted next Monday with the skills / guild patch i believe so expect to see lots more on it.

Even with mainly placeholder systems in like magic / houses etc this game is really fun.

If I can get a beta key without having to buy a game I'll most likely end up not enjoying, I'd try it, and if I found that I liked it, I'd -then- buy it.

Making you commit beforehand is silly, even if you need the cash. You ask friends or business partners to front cash when you're starting out, not the very people you're trying to woo over.

I got that email about the open beta a few weeks back but wasn't sure if it was a troll email or not.

Oh so the character creator has each character nude.

    Not sure if want.

Looks like a mix of Asheron's Call II and Darkfall Online. I can tell it's being done by a smallish company because that graphical style looks like 2002 smoothbore PC games.

I dislike any MMO that tries to pull that first-person combat, because if you aren't shooting a gun, it always looks clunky and completely unrealistic.

I'll give the beta a shot, but I doubt it'll hook me.

looks pretty interesting. I'm really liking the skill tree thing. The graphics seem outdated but that doesn't bother me too much.

    Necro-bump.
It's 2012 and the game is still doing pretty well.

The Good: sandbox style mmo, full pvp - lootable corpses, guild control territory, player housing/taxation. 1st person melee combat like Mount and Blade/Skyrim, deep very deep crafting, custom weapons/armor. Characters need food/sleep, weight/size effects you, full character customization(skill points, no levels), taming and animal controls, mounted combat. Player killers griefing your jimmies. Thieves thieving your foods in town. Offline progression. Full nudity (hairy viganas everywhere!) Ultima Online's spiritual successor.

The Bad: Buggy. PvE balance issues. Player killers. Thieves. Full nudity (wangs, wangs everywhere)

The Ugly: Low pop. Player killers in town. Thieves. Full nudity (wangs, wangs everywhere)

    fun? Yes. very.
