Fallout is RPG from first person camera perspective. It does have the regular "shooter" elements but the exploration, sidequests and character development aspects are much more dominant than somewhat clumsy combat gameplay. With the DLC's(or GOTY) it has a good 200~ hours of gameplay in it so...yeah, not much point in renting it.
About glitches...my game crashed a couple of times but wasn't a big deal thanks to the "save anywhere" and auto-save functions.
Good buy if you are into racing games. I love it because I have a hardon for in-car view and the last time I've seen a decent one was...back in Test Drive days(excluding GT Prologue, GT is god)what about the new need for speed shift?
could we not have yet another pointless genre debate please
also short games worth renting but not owning:
Heavenly Sword
Alone in the Dark: Inferno
(maybe) Star Wars: Force Unleashed
didn't see it on the list:
Ninja gaiden 2
Lack of Fat Princess mentions is sad. And what the fuck at Railfan? I'm now intrigued by it.
Skip Resistance(s), go straight to Killzone 2 or Warhawk. Uncharted 2 also seems promising. MGO which comes with MGS4 is worth looking into to.
PSN is just full of trash, but there are 2-4 good (non-PS3, non-port) games in there. Wipeout HD is a good one. Super Street Fighter HD Remix is fantastic, but is way better on the Xbox360.
You seem to like Bayonetta. I suggest getting it on the 360. The PS3 version is an outsourced port and it shows. Ninja Gaiden Sigma(s) will work fine, though I haven't played the first one... only the game it is based on for the Xbox360. Oh, and Demon's Souls.
Uncharted 1 + 2
Fallout 3
MGS4
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2nd will be out soon)
Demon's Souls
As for PSN stuff, I agree with BRP that there's a lot of stuff that's either overpriced or not worth it at all. Savage Moon is a decent TD game, although it gets pretty hard pretty quickly. Crystal Defenders is fun as well, and perhaps even harder (is it even on PSN yet, or still just XBL?). Pixeljunk Eden is weird, but addictive. Echochrome is so-so but the whole perspective puzzler thing is done better by early paper mario games or the little-known Crush for PSP. I like Trash Panic a lot as well.
Oh and Trine is way overpriced, although I'm betting Co-op is probably worth it. The Last Guy is boring, and don't bother with Linger in Shadows despite the low price tag.
I haven't played Flock or Fat Princess yet![]()
I'm not a huge FPS fan, but I can't say I enjoyed Killzone 2 much (single player). It's not an horrible game, but I can't remember any aspect that impressed me.
Oblivion...pc only (download), unless you know you will love it.
I havent played some of the game listed, but aside MGS, DMC and Resident Evil, everything else felt like rental (or torrent) material. Games are generally too short, or have little replay value
Killzone 2 is an amazing FPS and the game physics are just as impressive as the graphics, if you can get over the weighted controls. I loved it.
Also, agreeing with Warhawk, underrated game and it has a dedicated player base.
Kyo, Toys R Us is having buy 2 get 1 free on all vidya games, and Uncharted 2 comes out this week.
Recommend me 2 more games. (TRU doesn't carry Demon's Soul, as I was considering it sort of.)
Brutal Legend
GT5 Prologue, NHL10, or uh, NFS Shift
Batman, and... Fallout 3 GOTY edition or w/e it is
Got a gamefly membership and a ps3 a couple weeks ago. I bought Little Big Planet, it's a lot more fun than I expected. (got it for my female roomate) I got Batman and Overlord 2 first from Gamefly. Beat batman fairly quickly, good game though. I am really enjoying Overlord, I had no idea what to expect when I put it in my Q but have been pleasantly surprised. I have Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Soul Caliber IV, Ultimate Alliance 2, Fight Night Round 4 (not sure about this one really), Tekken 6 (when it releases), Dragon Age (when it releases), and Tiger Woods 10 on my Q at the moment. I am not big on shooters, but will probably give COD MW2 a shot.
I downloaded the demo for Crystal Defenders...that is pretty fun for a little time killer. I like the tower defense type of games.
We've had this conversation quite a few times this week, I'll share my plan.
I plan on going Tuesday, getting Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend and a random 3rd title. With my random title I plan on returning the following week and getting borderlands.
Im unsure on how long you have to return games there un-opened at a store location, the website says 45 days, but the store itself Im unsure.
Some games I would reccomend-
InFamous-Open would exploration game played as a hero, has a good story, good gameplay and alot of exploration as well as rpg elements built in as most titles have today.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2- Remake of 2 from the 360, revamped the gore system, but added so much content, multiplayer, ninja mission mode, 2 new playable characters, and new weapons to unlock and upgrade. Weapons are upgradeable via orbs collected from killing enemies.
Brutal Legend- Action adventure title built around the world of heavy metal, each level and area is supposed to be crafted after an album cover, has a crazy track list of 108 songs, of old metal music. The campaign is 15-20 hours long depending on exploration and how long you take to do certain things. Multiplayer is a strategy style rts combat, looks like it could be fun.
Fallout 3 GOTY comes out wed 10/13, unsure if their carrying this or not, according to the graphic for the boxart they are. Like I noted above, I spent 200 hrs+ exploring and doing all the game had to offer, and the GOTY comes with all the expansion DLC that adds many hours of gameplay.
Borderlands- Comes out 10/20, FPSRPG, has tons and tons of guns to choose from, game has a built in random gun generator, has a talent system like wow, tons and tons of exploration, item collecting diablo style, you can use vehicles, add guns to them etc. The multiplayer is up to 4 people, drop in drop out, and youshare the loot you get while playing. Ive read many many different sources that say from anywhere to 40 to an upwards of 100 hours of gameplay depending on how you explore and play the game.
Ratchet and Clank a Crack and time- More of the same from the series, very story driven action adventure/platforming title with rpg elements. All the past titles have been very good and alot of fun. Comes out Oct 27th.
COD MW 2- This comes out Nov 10th, its more of the same as the first MW, heavily Multiplayer driven, game has a ton to offer, rpg elements, tons of gun customization, the single player is said to be about 10 hrs or so.
Dragon Age Origins- Biowares new IP, dark fantasy RPG. Comes out 11/3 for 360/pc and 11/17 for PS3, this is conditional if you would get it on PS3 as Im unsure if the return policy stretches to 45 days. Party style RPG, gameplay is 60-100 hr's, very in depth combat and choice system just like any other Bipware title.
Assassin's Creed 2- Nov 17th situational as well, depending on return policy. They took the whole quest dynamic and scraped it. You no longer have to accept, investigate and then assassinate you can do it as you wish. They added rpg elements to the game, you can buy new weapons, armor, items and such from shops with the gold you earn or steal. Now you can kill from anywhere with your hidden blades. The game is 20 times bigger than the first, you an swim and jack the canopy boats in the rivers, game is going to 40-60 hours of gameplay, some famous buildings will have exploration type stuff inside that will have treasures you can earn and only you hve access to.
All of these titles I would recommend, this holiday season is littered with good games to choose from and really sets us up for a huge spring as well.
I was going to get Uncharted 2, something good, and a title I wanted but didn't really care for and try to return it for Assassin's Creed 2 in November, but some stores, even if it's in return policy dates and unopened will only allow you to exchange for same title.
Fine print in the ad says you can only exchange for same title.
Yeah i hadnt read the ad just yet but if thats the case, that sucks ass, I'll ask when I go to my toys on tuesday and see what they say about returning items, cause I know for a fact I wanted to return one title for borderlands.
Is the controller a game?
