Holding hate in this game as a tank is ridiculously easy compared to FFXI...
as much as i first had rather seen an insensitive broker also, there is a nice feature coming with this system and i'm now used to it: let's say you're looking for Divine Dragon Dagger. now all you have to do is to enter "D D D" in the broker and it will spit out all "Dxxxx Dxxxxx Dxxxx" items. that might give you unwanted results if you're searching through the whole broker, but narrows down if you choose a section first. as example, i go on consumables and enter "P C H +10" to get all "Physical Critical Hit +10" manastones.
Level 32 mobs give 8 abyss pts, lvl 38 mobs give 12. I guess rifting is the only viable way to earn AP in a somewhat decent fashion? I'm an assassin so I can't really do group pvp and Artifacts don't give AP really. Just fortresses, which Asmo always lose on our server since we're all leveling to 50.
Ganking someone by yourself usually nets a fair amount of AP.
Wouldn't exactly call it ganking if you're by yourself, though. You'd also have to pick and choose your targets as an Assassin, I'd say. In the Abyss, if someone is smart enough to realize they're not gonna win the moment the fight starts, there's probably a good chance they'll be able to get away. I suppose this is where hiding and sneaking up on someone already weakened from a fight with a mob can come in handy, though. I did get owned pretty hard while questing in Heiron earlier this evening by one and his Gladiator buddy, but the Assassin was 4 levels higher than me (40) and the Glad actually did very little to me in comparison (same level as me). I just couldn't get away because of stuns, lack of flight, and I'm guessing he had movement boosts over me, too.
I wind up getting bored fighting most rangers I come across. I know their tricks, but there's fuck all I can really do about 'em. Was almost hoping a Kromede Bow would drop in the couple FT runs I did since we didn't have a Ranger in the group and I was the only one who could equip a bow. I'd just wind up switching to that and play the plink game with 'em instead of trying to trudge through snares while they keep ranging my skills.
Killing the non-elite guards guarding enemy forts in lower abyss gives me 65 AP per kill solo (as a rank 6, level 42 ranger), they are level 40. The AP adds up very quickly provided there isn't a lot of competition. This only works if your race doesn't control all forts in lower though. Be wary of linking, they do not appear to leash at all unless you fly off the island.
About the same as the normal level 40 balaur, maybe a little bit higher but not by much. They are non-elite, but 5 dots. I can usually burst the ranger and mage types to death before they have a chance to get much damage in.
/cry!
Aalryn tries to kill me in game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I assume by 8 taunts he means something like Provoke > Provoking Roar > Inescapable Judgement > Provoking Severe Blow > Incite Rage > Provoke > Provoking Severe Blow > dick around for 10 seconds > Provoke/Provoking Roar/Inescapable/Whatever.
Unless I'm mis-remembering cooldowns for some reason.
It's not hard at all, some people are just fucking terrible. The only time you'll have trouble is when mobs have hate reset moves, or other special hate conditions, which are very very few in the game.
Also, it really annoys me when Templars get knocked down by mobs. No reason that should be happening unless you're fighting a world boss or some shit.
Maybe he does have room for improvement, maybe he could use some tips but when a mob goes after a healer and I hear him say, "used my 3rd taunt, 4th, 5th, 6th while he is spamming abilties in between its hard to say he is doing it wrong.
He is also an experienced tank from WoW so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt considering I use to tank as well.
Maybe i am just overcuring also.
