The description of the curse says I became cursed because of killing too many lower level targets in the opposition territory but it kicked in when I killed somebody 5 above me. My run ended shortly after due to the curse giving away my kisk location after I released to it on death.

The curse wore off after about 30 minutes of standing in sanctum, I wait a bit and rift again and am cursed again after only 5 kills, all were higher level than me. The kill that it kicked in on was a 39. Seriously? It's not like I was a 50 constantly ganking 35s or something, about 95% of the kills were equal or greater in level.

From what it sounds like after searching some boards, I need to wait like 8+ hours for it to reset completely. Seems a bit steep to me.

You're the one who's acting retarded and getting all defensive. Ganking low lvl people is not PvP, and I never disagreed with you on that. Maybe you should fix your reading comprehension. I even went ahead and bolded the part I think you should read in regards to being penalised for PvPing.

Also I meant he was laughing before the patch notes in reference to the last page of this thread, because this was the first time I've actually seen/heard of the curse.

I think you need to go over the page again until you realise how retarded you're being, he wasn't "ganking lowbies" he was killing players his level/higher than them with only a small amount being lower than him, understand?

I wonder if it was due to the fact that I had accumulated 700+ kills there in the last 4 days and those kills just didn't reset completely. I didn't see the curse at all until tonight even though the previous 3 nights I had made 150-250 kills each night there.
if the people who you killed reported you for being annoying the levels wont entirely be checked, youll get "ganking" points for just doing what you do best.
I would also wager the gatherbots probably have an auto-report option in them

Question: How did you kill a level 39? I find that hard to believe as it's fairly difficult to beat anyone just a few levels higher than you..

The level 39 kill that I got cursed on was another assassin, and he actually got the first move on me. My 30 sin has a +10 mainhand blue weapon, pretty much all blue gear with attack+4 stones in every slot, and I use power shards (the +20 damage ones), 90 crit scroll, 9% attack speed scrolls, 50 crit/acc food, major life serums to stay alive, etc. I'd +10 the offhand but I'm trying to camp the blue 30 dagger that the sheluk NM drops with better stats so not much reason for me to drop an extra 2m on stones for that. Luck is definitely a factor in some of these fights as my stun procs are not very reliable on anyone past 34-35ish.

With that setup, I can deal a high amount of damage quickly to the low defense classes (ranger, assassin, sorcerer, spiritmaster) even as high as level 40, and many of the sorcs/SMs I've gone against don't seem to expect focused evasion and aethertwisting coming and get their key spells blocked. Any good sorc or SM 35+ really shouldn't have any trouble beating me though unless I catch them at a bad time but sadly most of them just get their spells blocked by FE and AT and go down without doing a thing to me or try to run like a bitch. Temps and glads give me a bit of trouble past about 33ish due to higher defense and hp, clerics and chanters due to stuns not being reliable making it hard for me to prevent heals. Rangers generally try to kite me, but between 21% speed shoes, 30% scroll, and 20% from sprinting I can usually catch them as long as they aren't in an area they can fly. I save FE to try to catch entangling shot, and pot out of it if it does land. Other assassins are pretty much just a straight up DPS war and hope I get lucky enough on stuns if they're significantly higher than me.

EDIT #2: Theres other people who have been doing a similar thing for a bit longer, like Stoker on Marchutan is one of the more famous ones. 31 assassin who now has 10 pieces of abyss gear - http://na.aiononline.com/characters/Marchutan/Stoker

I guess for melees, a level difference is not as crippling as it is for mages, because there is a hard cap on evasion, parry, and block. If it were a level 30 sorc or SM, they'd have next to no chance on any level 39 (innate 70% resist rate on top of the MR check).

Best way is to PvP for it. I can generally land 4-6k+ AP per hour killing asmos in beluslan or morheim which is much faster than anything you could get from abyss PvE (until you can grind fort/tower guards which isn't really viable until about 37-40 solo depending on class) which might get you like 1.5-2k/hr and you'd be gaining a lot faster EXP doing PvE so you wouldn't stay 30 for very long unless you kept suiciding to keep your EXP down.

On Corwen, I started grinding abyss mobs for AP for my shoes at 25 and by the time I had enough AP I believe I had hit 35, so that certainly isn't the way to go if you want AP gear on a 30ish char.

And yea, the level difference isn't quite so bad on a melee and can be overcome with attack stones and consumables. I think low level rangers and assassins pull this off best. I actually had a level 35 ranger destroy my 48 ranger in the abyss by catching me off guard with a 3.5k stunning shot + rupture arrow combo which is nearly 75% of my HP, although he was decked out in abyss gear and a +10 gold crafted bow and attack stones. I do miss maybe 15-20% of my attacks on rangers that are a few levels higher on me which isn't so bad, but stuns become very unreliable past level 35ish targets which can easily cost me a kill. One good thing about losing in such cases is that since they are so much higher than you, you really don't take much of an AP hit so its generally worth the risk, but when you do win, its usually very rewarding if they have a decent rank at all.

If you're killed by the opposite faction you lose the same amount of AP (determined by rank) regardless of how much they earn.

Incorrect, for proof I just picked a fight with a level 36 + level 37 bot duo (both rank 9) while I was rank 8 and level 30 and intentionally lost. These bots didn't even fight back at all, I had to run into the glad's AoEs until i died, but he did take me from 100% to 0%. The Glad went from 0 AP to 9 AP after the kill and I lost 3. If I were to lose the full amount, it would have been 37 points according to the chart on the powerwiki. Seeing as they were a lower rank than me, that wasn't a factor in me losing so little points. See pics below:

    Nice exp debt

That's neat I guess, wonder how it works exactly. I remember getting raped by a mid-40s elyos the first time I went to Black Cloud island when I was like 30 and losing the full amount.

My guess is that it follows a similar pattern to PvE EXP penalties for fighting mobs below your level. When I was rank 4, I was only losing 3 points to deaths against level 40+ people when the chart shows 225 and 10 levels over is the point in which you only gain like 1% EXP when killing a mob in PvE. Any deaths from people 3 or less levels (or maybe its 2 or less) above me results in me losing the full amount.

Whenever someone brags about killing someone much higher, its usually bullshit. The PVP in Aion so far in my travels consists of someone ganking another. Essentially, someone is grinding, low on MP/HP, then someone else shows up of the opposing faction, teams up with the mob being fought and kills the person grinding. It's never a clean fight where each person starts with fresh HP, MP, and isn't currently fighting something else. If fights were clean, then honestly and depending on class, the higher level should win. Most of the job classes in Aion in a fight follow the rock, paper, scissor rule. Or if it's healer versus healer, you have a snore festival.

Then you have situations where it's a party of 2+ members going around jumping people who are solo.

^ this. There's no skill to MMO PvP, lol. Numbers > MPK > class balance. Bragging about wins is retarded because 99% of them aren't earned.

Even "equal" fights are determined by who gets crits/procs.
