FF9 is my favorite FF, just because you don't like it doesn't make it the worst
so... getting back on topic.
What classes do you think they'll add to mage? Obviously WHM if Thaumaturge isn't a WHM already.
Thaumaturge could be the starting disciple for the mage type in which it could branch off to other types i.e. whm blm rdm?
True, I think if anything Thaumaturge would be the base for blackmage just from the look of it's armor
Thaumaturge means "miracle worker" so I guess it's the top term. I'll throw out the obvious ones: healing, divine, elemental, dark, enhancing and enfeebling as the next levels.
No pet classes to begin with, so no summoning magic. BLU could be represented by "animalistic" or "plantoid."
Synthesis Crystals have nothing to do with the Home point lol. Well the Home point looks like a crystal and the Home point looks like the Aethertype.
Aren't Quadav Thaumaturges in Dynamis RDMs?
Nope, they're BLMs.
I hate to sound argumentative, but I don't see how you can come to that conclusion. Home points in XI are crystals, tele points are crystals, and synthesis crystals are crystals.
Everything crystalline in XI is called a crystal. In XIV, the first crystalline entity we see is not called a crystal, but an aetheryte. Can we exclude the possibility that when the game is finally released that the word crystal will be replaced completely by aetheryte?
Sure, just look at everything else they've renamed:
Hume => Hyur
Galka => Roegadyn
Mithra => Miqo'te
Tarutaru => Lalafell
Elvaan => Elezen
eleven => fourteen
Coming in 2025: Final Fantasy XVII - Online! play one of six diverse races, from the multi-talented Hyoom to diminuitive Shmarushmaru. Or picka hulking Malka or sleek, feminine Shmithra as you battle fearsome monsters through the realms of Shmana-shmiel! It's an all-new experience.
If you read one my earlier posts you would have learned that I observed that on the one hand that it can be simply seen as a nomenclatural change, like changing HTLV-III to HIV-1, but that it is also a reminder that this is a different game from XI.
That's a point a lot of people have not really grasped, and that's why I started the thread.
They're only 'different' in that in one game we know the mechanics and have all the math sorted out already, and in the other game chances are the equations aren't even programmed into the game yet, so it's up to our imaginations to make them different. In this case you either work from experience with MMOs and other FF games, which tells us it's just a new label on the same ol' same ol' to keep the lore sounding exotic, or you speculate optimistically and hope for a brand new mechanic.
If I were a gambling man my money'd be on the former.
All 'new-fangled' synthing does, a lot of the NPCs in FFXI talk about the old way of crafting without crystals (especially the SAM starter quest guy in Norg who made swords the traditional way). Obviously XIV is going to require crystals for adventurers to synth too, unless they're going to implement minigames like cooking mama or something >.> I wonder if there is going to be a similar tradition of crafting without crystals in XIV, or if people have been doing it that way since the dawn of time or whatever... (maybe the gods showed them how to do it?)
