That shit was awesome actually being there and seeing it other ships were the Reagen and I think Nimitz. Was in 2006 so not sure exactly if it was the Nimitz. We were around Guam doing joint ops with the AF that's why the B-2 (or 52 w/e) is there and a couple raptors in the background.

Anyway couple pics from rough seas down by Australia shit was so bad a wave actually crashed over the bow of the ship and almost took a few planes off the deck.

Worst part was the dickheads kept flying and tons of planes got fucked up from trying to land in that shit. The pilots said they could actually see the screws (propellers) coming out of the water because the ship was rocking so much on the swells.

The picture dudeguy has shows the Lincoln (72), the Eisenhower (69), and the Reagan (76), left to right as we view it. The shitty kitty isn't in that picture. I have to wonder how old it is because of the F14s in the picture shot background. Those are gone now.


I'm not sure about yours Dazed I can't really read the numbers. Zoomed up close it looks like a 63, but that wouldn't be a nuclear ship. I'm guessing 68, since that's kinda close, so that would be the Nimitz.


As for the waves comment, you'd be surprised. The weather can be surprisingly 'calm' and still have swells going over the decks. Carrier may be a large ship but the ocean can still own it if it wishes. However, unless those jets were prepping for launch, they shouldn't have been in any danger of loss; the tie down cables are no joke. Definitely seen some waves crash over an elevator lifting planes without any effect to the planes - the people on the other hand is a different story. Idiots not wearing harnesses right/at all; once heard of a guy get swept off of L1, under L2, and dumped back on L3.

One of our jets had just landed and was taxiing up to the bow and a couple others were getting tied down when the wave hit so they weren't quite "wave ready" when it happened. The ones that were chained were fine but a few almost got taken out.

My pics are the Kitty Hawk, we were heading to Perth, and hit that shit on the way there. We were doing some training exercises with the Australians so they didn't want to cancel the flight schedule.

The numbers other than the Reagan are hard to read but that middle is 63 (Kitty Hawk) and yeah you're right about the Lincoln was over 3 years ago so couldn't remember and Nimitz was first ship that popped into my head that is west coast.

Speaking of stupid people there was a PR that walked right off the deck on a night scrub ex that apparently had 10+ years of flight deck experience. Considering the guy was ok it was rather humorous of him to do something that stupid.

Edit: I'm pretty sure the planes in the background are F-15's/16's and Raptors.
