Why use a General's Shield to skill up? It doesn't block as much. Did they change something about skilling shield or am I losing my mind?
Go get a Sipar or any other buckler type shield. Should go faster.

I highly recommend the Gnats in Sauromugue Champaign (S). I got my last 7-8 lvls in about 2hrs or less there. I only pulled one at a time and pl'd myself on a rdm mule.
Bought a cheap buckler shield from ah and headed to the Den of rancor. Pld/dnc, 1-2 lvls every 1 puck. I tried two pucks for about 5 mins, which went much faster.
When i was skilling my shield in den of rancor, i spammed reprisal whenever it is up to increase my block chance. Yes it will kill them over time but it gonna take pretty long.
Good old Joyeuse/Sipar and pld/dnc, you'll be spamming cures and waltzes though. Zone when you want, repeat.
Rdm with sipar.../dnc, /blu, /pld?
fixed sj choices!
capped, thanks all for the info. Now to do parrying /sigh.
Simba buckler or Caballero shield if I'm going to be solo @195 enhancing PLD/RDM?
I thought Sipar was proven to be just a normal buckler shield with no hidden property? Otherwiki claims a 98% block rate...
I did Parry 134-223 in about 10 hours on thf with 25 mourioche wailing on me. I three boxed my whm PL and a borrowed RDM with lvl 1 phalanx II. After that I did 223-225 in one beseiged tanking the mnk troll NM on PLD.
I'd strongly recommend this method vs. tanking single mobs if you have sam, thf, cor, or nin. It will work on PLD too, but you obviously can't push parrying as high as those other jobs with Mourioche.
