The logic I used applies to any genre, this is why I say your statement implies that people with good taste must enjoy all genres.

I know, my statement applies to any genre.

My rule of thumb only works when you are interested and have some sort of expertise on the type of game. Whether a game is good or not, or any other sort of comment, has little value coming from someone without that. (Well, varying degrees of usefulness to go along with varying degrees of understanding.)

I don't know how you can only think you are having fun.

The closest thing I can think of that sounds like that is grinding stats(or general stat progression to put it in a nicer tone) where people buy into games designed around false depth/character progression. That has little to do with what we were talking about(though both of these qualities define the FF series.) But if we are talking about that now I'll say nothing discredits it. If you can't recognize the difference then you are probably happy where you are and if someone tells you otherwise(no matter how well) you might just end up thinking they are some sort of troll. Continue playing the videogame version of Meet The Spartans if you are satisfied with it.

Fake depth("packaged achievement") is like taking happy pills, while real depth is experiencing natural joy. The pathetic life of some MMO players aside, you don't lose much outside it since it is just a videogame. It is just inferior to those who can tell the difference.
