I've been trying to educate you, but you keep screaming "NO DEFINE 'RIGHT' FIRST". The definition of "moral absolutism" presumes that there is an independent and absolute definition of "right" - and we both seem to agree that there isn't. Without such a definition, the concept of moral absolutism falls flat precisely for reasons that you seem to understand. That's what I've been saying all along, I apologize if I used unfamiliar terms.
No such thing as right or wrong, just 1 or 0.
homosexuality is always wrong since it's an abomination in god's eyes and does not lead to the survival of your dna.
nvm
Oops, fucked up a little there.
I don't have faith in science, I don't believe in science.
You should look into what the scientific method means.
Religion is a culture of faith, Science is a culture of doubt. ~ Richard Feynman
As for physics being a mathematical structure, you're mistaking my statement as referring to our models of physical laws, when in actuality I am referring to the physical laws themselves as representing underlying mathematical structures.
If there is a God, then he is made of math, there is nothing more fundamental than mathematics.
Incidentally, without knowing of Kant and his work, I reached much the same conclusions about many things, though I then realized that I can not force reality to abide by my philosophical interpretation of it.
tl;dr, philosophy is 99% bullshit, and if only a Sith deals in absolutes (which is, as pointed out, an absolute), then Sith deal in mathematics, so I'm all about the dark side, yo.
I suppose there's nothing wrong with people wanting to replace god with mathematics or some other transcendental truth, for now. I guess almost everyone needs something eternal, seemingly infinite, and undeniable to believe in. Although the similarity between the religious rhetoric and this belief about the fundementalness of math and how it is the essence of nature/existence/the universe, is troubling to me.
“Rationalists are admirable beings, rationalism is a hideous monster when it claims for itself omnipotence. Attribution of omnipotence to reason is as bad a piece of idolatry as is worship of stock and stone believing it to be God. I plead not for the suppression of reason, but for a due recognition of that in us which sanctifies reason.”
- Mahatma Gandhi
But I want to believe, man.
Math is infinite, in fact it is infinitely infinite.
It is outside of time, as time is a concept that emerges in certain types of mathematical spaces, so that pwns eternity soundly.
Math does not care if you believe in it, it is provable, that trumps any silly concept of belief for a logical mind.
You can't reduce things further than mathematics, religion is what children make up to explain things, math is what logical thinkers turn towards, driven by a thirst for knowledge and understanding, seekers of truth.
We don't turn there for comfort, it can seem bleaker than your ability to conceive of bleakness would allow.
We turn there because it will not lie to us, unlike your flawed gods.
Fuck yeah, math!
O...kay then...
A minimum of 1 person hates blacks. This is an absolute truth.
There are no moral absolutes. Its all about interpretation of what we see around us.
Yeah "o... kay" indeed, you bring up the topic of belief.
I don't NEED to believe in math, I don't need to believe in ANYTHING.
I am a logical thinker, I am capable of furthering my own education, I can create and destroy models for events, and compare them against observation.
Just because you can not shed the anchor of belief, does not mean everyone else is so limited.
Yes, for the record, I am stating that belief is a limitation.
The argument about "well you believe math is true" falls flat because I specifically disbelieve in it just to confirm if it has any truth content, and surprise surprise, it holds up against disbelief.
In case it was missed, I do not have any beliefs, I hold nothing to be true unless it can not be falsified, and I hold nothing as relevant if it can not be phrased in a falsifiable manner.
