This happened in Hammond LA which still has lots of old racism folk. Coming back from katrina we had to ride through Hammond to get home and stopped at this gas station where the dude got arrested for trying to deny a black family from getting gas.

just for the record, the guy did not deny them a marriage license, he just refused to perform the ceremony/officiate the wedding. He has the right to refuse that for any reason at all. My wife and I were turned down by her parent's priest because he would not perform an outdoor ceremony. People get turned down all the time for any number of reasons (religious and financial being the most common and obvious). This guy in no way impeded their ability to get married nor did he trample upon their rights. There is more racism in the fact that this IS a story than in the story itself.

Just for the record you are incorrect. He did in fact deny them a license which is why this is such a big deal instead of the second thing you said which would not be a big deal.
