P.S. And to be super cynical, who else thinks this is the last time they are going to bother to update the game, thusly the Ultimate Collection title? (I had my Cynical Wheeties today.)

The same thought crossed my mind, however in reality marketing uses the word "ultimate" on the basis of two assumptions: 1) that there is a large number of people who think ultimate is a qualitative descriptor and see "ultimate collection" but read "best collection". 2) that those people who do know the meaning of the word "ultimate" will not base their purchase decision on its misuse. Whether or not this is the final release they make, the word "ultimate" in the title is highly unlikely to be a clue in that direction.

To SE: I want my $10 for ACP back.

I'm reallllly glad I've waited to buy the mini-expansions. Buy two get one free, and a backup copy of every other expansion as an added bonus.

Doubt it. PS2 is on it's last leg no doubt, however I think I read somewhere about SE saying it was harder and harder to package XI related stuff for PS2 because most stores were ordering very little or no games/expansions/whatever.

Yeah, you know nothing about game design, sorry to burst your cynical bubble, but every game company have websites for their games and products that doesn't distract one bit from game development because they are not one in the same, nor are they the same development team, you have one set of people (or one person in most cases) that will develop and maintain the website which said person is usually never part of the development team. The only time resources will go 'astray' is when they're on multiple projects, not because they make a website.

It's likely they didn't make it for the PS2 because they want more people using the 360/PC versions and face it, by now most PS2s are dead or about to die except for the slim which iirc doesn't support the HDD.

But they are all on the same payroll on a budget aren't they? Any business allocates a finite number of resources to a project. Development person A gets his/her paycheck from the same Web Content Developer person A.

For the previous vanadiel collections, all that was done was an announcement at the main page portal. In terms of work done and cost, pretty minimal.

But this one had an entire website developed for what seems like a brand new game. Why not throw the resources into television/internet adverts if the sole reason was to create buzz?

The website seems to cater mostly to New players. The game is over 7 years old, population growth is either going to exist or not. Short of re-inventing the whole game (oh wait thats XIV), the only thing they can do is keep the existing base happy, and that is through development.

It's crazy they won't release this on PS3 either,I know so many people on playstation network that would buy this ,they have no 360 or pc.SE should stop charging us so much,for so many things and start making money by making ffxi for ps2 US and EU and also Ps3 :/

Its just to differentiate regions, if you noticed. The PS2 version of the "Ultimate edition" was not visibly marketed stateside for a reason.

Stupid question but since myself and some others have waited to get the mini-expansions, if I get this pack how would it work regarding installing them on an already existing account?

Just use the multi-key to register with. Stuff that you already have registered will stay on the key and can be used for another account. (Anything that gets used expansion wise, is gone for good to that account it is registered with.

A friend of mine said he went to gamestop to pick this up, and the person working there told him that no Gamestop's at all on the west coast had gotten this in. That it was taken off the list or something along those lines. Does anyone know why this is?

Outside of Japan, there is no longer any compatible Sony hardware on the market to run the game, unless you buy used. When the 2008 Collection came out, there were compatible PS3 models, so the PS2 version got a release. All that's new on this disc is the add-ons, which are automatically downloaded with patches anyway, so a 2008 Disc will still work to install on a compatible PS3 or PS2 model, and all you need to use is the registration code, which you can use from a PC or Xbox 360 version, so they have no need to make new PS2 discs. If someone is going to track down a compatible used system, they can be bothered to track down a used install disc too, is the logic SE is following. The only discs they HAVE to produce for PS2 players at this point, outside of Japan, are any expansions that come out that aren't provided via download, but need a disc to install instead. We may or may not get another of those.
