How young is too young working for the government?

SEC Said to Hire Goldman’s Storch for Enforcement Job (Update1) - Bloomberg.com
Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission hired Adam Storch, a 29-year-old former employee in Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s business intelligence unit, as the enforcement division’s first chief operating officer, according to people familiar with the decision.

The COO, who started Oct. 13, has “a great deal of background” in technology and managing processes and the pace of work, Robert Khuzami, head of enforcement, said yesterday in Washington. Storch, who worked since 2004 in a unit at Goldman Sachs that reviewed contracts and transactions for signs of fraud, will be charged with making the unit more efficient. Storch, reached by telephone at the SEC, declined to comment.

Khuzami announced the position in August as part of the unit’s biggest overhaul in three decades. He is taking steps to add front-line investigators, speed inquiries and create specialized units after the agency was faulted for missing Bernard Madoff’s $65 billion fraud.

Storch holds degrees in accounting and finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo and studied at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business. He has certifications in accounting, fraud examination and auditing.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Storch was a senior analyst at accounting firm Deloitte & Touche and an intern at Neuberger Berman LLC, a New York-based asset management firm.

Khuzami has created specialty units of investigators and is giving people more incentive to cooperate with investigations. The five groups will investigate cases in asset management, structured products, municipal securities and public pensions, foreign corrupt practices and market abuse, Khuzami said in an Aug. 5 a speech in New York.
He's only 29. Do you think this guy's too young?

Age and experience do not always go hand-in-hand, especially in an industry that is still evolving, like technology.

What you should be far more upset about is that we're hiring the fucking thieves who created this mess to clean it up.

After being on the main BG page and the thread title being reduced to "How young is too young", the contents are dreadfully disappointing.

It really depends on the person. I know quite a few 21 year olds who have a much stronger work ethic than some 30 year olds. Honestly it all depends on the person and their level of motivation.

    As for level of experience:
Assuming he graduated University by age of 22
2 years work experience (now 24)
    2 years MBA (now 26)

So in total he would have about 5 years total work experience assuming he did go on to do his masters (which for that level of position I would hope so). I am also assuming that the MBA program for you is similar to ours, in that you need a few years of actual work experience before you can start it.

How is 29 too young for a career? I am 26 and by the time I'll be done with grad school I'll be 29 (I didn't begin right out of high school), and my degrees are for a government job as a diplomat or consul for our embassies and consulates abroad.

If you're in your 30s you should be expected to have your career. Good for him!

This sounds reasonable. Probably how this 29 year old became COO.

Keep telling yourselves that you'll be COO at 29 kids, and that your MBA is going to get you there. This guy is already a millionaire, and you post on BG.

Good point. It is absolutely true, imo, that just having a degree is going to get you no where really. It is a signal, showing that you CAN do the work at a higher level, but it is up to you to actually GO out and do it. That being said, the kid worked at Goldman Sachs so he is clearly very smart.

Old enough to fight for your country, certainly old enough to work for them in a civilian position as long as they are qualified. Nothing here says he isn't.

I hate to agree with Senoska, because I object to almost everything he says, but I'm in complete agreeance here with him.

I work for the local county government who in turn works for the state and I'm 28. I'll be a Case Worker by next year, should I pass the exam. Are you referring to any job in the government? This specific job is too much to handle for a person so young? I am unsure of the point you are trying to make with this. I know plenty of people my age and younger more competent and reliable than a lot of older poeople.

How trivial of a decision is too trivial for eunhye to post yet another retarded thread questioning it with a rhetorical title?
