    Question about systems reading games

I got my copy of ff8 in today and the guy had taped the discs into the case to keep them from moving around and when I took the tape off, part of the paint on the top of the disc came off too. I was wonderin if this is gonna affect the gameplay or not? When I hold it up to the light I can see straight through the purple layer of the disc. Thanks.

It should be fine. I've had CD-Rs before that were literally just the data layer being sandwiched by clear plastic. Made it a bitch to figure out which side to burn though. ;/

[EDIT] On second thought, how does the rest of the artwork layer look? If its got that 'chipping away' look from around the area the tape yanked off, it may not be the greatest of ideas to put it into a fast-spinning drive in case of crap flying out and wrecking something internally.

looked fine to me. It was just on the very edge of the disc. I just don't want to get to disc 3 and my game freeze or start skipping and not be ableto finish it.

If the damaged section is completely clear, there's a decent chance that it will cause gameplay issues, most likely the game will freeze whenever it tries to read from that section of the disc. If it's only the very outer portion of the disc there's a chance that there won't be any data there, but I've had a few discs that the artwork chipped off just a little and it was totally unplayable.
