But Biddinger, before you get too giddy, do remember that dook got beat by 27 at Clemson last year - and went on to win the ACC tournament and 3rd round of the NCAAs. If either of those things happened for this year, the season is a success.

As much as I like Coach K and have come to despise UNC for reasons outside North Carolina, Clemson sent a ranked squad and took care of business...Duke had a razors lead at halftime against unranked BC if i remember. I wouldnt be hoopin and hollerin about Duke vs UNC yet until they play their h2h's.

UGA had a possible win (depending if you agree with the foul call with 11 seconds left or not) against ranked Miss State the other night. Making awesome strides as a program very quickly and im excited about it.

MSU is staying very quiet, solid win over the golden gophers the other night. Just as planned

Wow...last night on the local news they had said that they thought it was a concussion. I guess he died after the newscast. Sad, I went to that school for a while before transferring, but never really kept up with any of their sports. It's just a few minutes from me.

I took my one of my children to the movies tonight in Evansville (city of the university) and all of the electronic billboards had him on them with well wishes for his family, friends, and teammates.

Phenomenal basketball game today, glad I was there to watch it. We are just not a very good team period, got down big but had the hard to battle back and had a chance at the end. This team does not have the usual level of talent or experience, but it's great to see them play hard anyways.

I figured this game would be scrappy and sloppy.. but man, this is all kinds of ugly. I'm a K-Stater, but this is more Texas playing worse than KSU than it is the Cats playing their game well. Oh well, I can't complain if we hold on for a win.

Calhoun Takes Leave for Medical Reasons

University of Connecticut Coach Jim Calhoun took an indefinite medical leave of absence on Tuesday, with the institution citing “temporary medical issues.” The university declined to specify Calhoun’s medical issues or offer a timetable for his return.

Calhoun has battled cancer in the past, but his doctor said in a statement released by the university that Calhoun’s current issues were not related to “any previous medical conditions that he has dealt with.”

The associate head coach George Blaney will coach the Huskies during Calhoun’s absence.

“Our primary concern is Coach Calhoun’s health and his complete recovery,” UConn Athletic Director Jeff A. Hathaway said in a statement. “We will do everything possible to support Coach during this time.”

Connecticut is 11-6, 2-3 in the Big East and has lost three consecutive games. Connecticut plays St. John’s on Wednesday at the XL Center in Hartford and against No. 1 Texas on Saturday in Storrs, Conn. Connecticut’s three-game tailspin has knocked it out of the top 25. If the Huskies lose both games, the specter of them failing to reach the N.C.A.A. tournament will arise.

Calhoun, 67, is a Hall of Fame coach whose program is enduring a period of uncertainty. There is an ongoing investigation into the recruitment of Nate Miles that could result in serious penalties for the program. Calhoun’s leave could also hurt recruiting, as his age combined with his health issues will be used against the Huskies on the recruiting trail.

Calhoun agreed to a five-year contract recently, but the university has not announced if he has signed the deal.

This is not the first time that Calhoun has stepped away for medical reasons. Blaney filled in coaching for Calhoun three times — in 2003, during the 2006-7 season and in the first game of last year’s N.C.A.A. tournament.
