The biggest insult is Soul Voice + Gjallarhorn + full wind/singing merit + best gear in every single slot still lose out to a lv15 job ability which can be used every 10 mins.

I don't even have a ghorn, and able to land elegy on some hnm if ES is down...it just takes 4 tries. XD

I really don't see the point of that harp...or harps in general. It's a LOT harder to get +string gear than +wind, so wind is superior in every situation. Sure, if you're in blm pt in dynamis, sure they all move around and it's hard to land it on everyone. But besides that, it's an entirely pointless instrument.

I capped my string to do wider ballads. That's it.

I still use mary's for all my sleeps, I'm 8/8 wind and 8/8 singing, which just widens the gulf between string and wind even further. There are events where I come /nin expressly for the purpose of crowd control, I have a +eva set that gets idled in, in addition to a little more robust of an HPDown set than most people due to me being too lazy to go out and drop millions of gil on sky pops for zenith just to hit latent easier, every type of HQ instrument, a full skill set, in addition to an enfeebling set, I'm already 74/80 with no meds or food in my inventory... I don't have room for string skill gear, it's simply not practical to leave other gear out in favor of gimping my sleeps by using an inferior skill.

    String sucks. Wind is reliable.

Learn to fucking catch mobs when they path closer together and shut up about string. If you can't manage this, then grats on sucking at the job, keep using an inferior skill, and shut up.

    No, that's laziness.

A Kirin burn that a friend begged me to come BRD for isn't worth spending gil on oils.

    Nice try though, champ.

Sure thing, Mr. Perfect. I guess sneak isn't available on /WHM, and BRD's can't sleep any aggro they might get if sneak should happen to drop in the middle of said aggro with all their awesome wind+sing skill. Or be able to just find a spot to cast..

Laziness indeed. What? You want me to cure? Pshaw!

    Sorry for questioning the awesomeness that is you. ;_;

I don't think I've ever brd/nined to anything besides meripos. If it's a toau hnm, /blm, otherwise, stick to /whm for extra cures and sneak/invis.

Thank you on proving how fucking retarded you are. If you can't land Horde Lullaby with Nursemaid's Harp on a large group of mobs your gear and skills suck. String accuracy is not optimal but hardly abysmal either.

PS: Slightly irrelevant but, diss on String Instruments all you want but for almost every other action besides singing, Angel Lyre trumps everything else you can where in that slot.

If doing a Bard rotation in Einherjar, there are many instances where /RDM is the optimal subjob for Bard. With it, it is much more possible for all three bards to land all six Soul Voiced Troub + Night songs for the boss. You don't need /RDM if you have all the proper equipment, but it's good to have a safety net.

My ls has never done that, nor have we had the need to. BRD rotation only for boss, rest of the time, we stay in the same pt. Beaten easily that way with an alliance +1 pt.

We rotate during the entire 30 minutes of Einherjar so the situation might be different for you than to me. Regardless, if you have the necessary - Song spellcasting equipment you should be fine. /RDM acts more as a safety net as I said.

String accuracy is not optimal but hardly abysmal either.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. Every time I talk to another brain-dead BRD, they rattle off how horrible string skill is - I've even been told that its half as accurate as wind skill.

    No. Just...no.

String is not THAT bad. Your just not properly geared for it. In which case, the real answer isn't 'String Instruments suck', but rather (and more specifically toward lullabies) 'you suck at AOE sleeping' - which is the whole point.

It's not a debate about which is more accurate. We already know there is more Wind Skill in the game, via gear and via merits (if you choose to do so). Wind will always be more accurate due to that reason.

The real issue here isn't so much resist rates either - When was the last time you needed to sleep a squad of Lullaby resistant mobs?

The real issue is just whether its worth it for most people to carry around an extra gear set to have a wider sleep area. Just equipping Harp and firing away isn't going to work. For most people - the answer is going to be no. That is the reason String sucks.

As for instruments, dont bother with string instruments that debuff a mob.
Urat, if you see a brd using a.. Nursemaids harp, kindly tell them to drop
that piece of trash and go camp stray mary or buy marys horn off ah.

Any brd using nursemaids who has been told marys is much superior to it, is not
a brd, thats a dumbass. I used nursemaids back in the day and I remember the day
I decided to finally pick up a Marys Horn.

I was in shock at the difference between how often my lullaby stuck to how
    often it didnt, using Nursemaids.
    ...
First: Alk BRD ranting on String? The accuracy difference you'd see in String vs Wind (baseline) is going to be very similar to Alk vs HQ Staves. Your making the jump for one, but not the other. Is the kettle black enough?

Second: Your so-called gear is pretty much maxed out. You'd only need to make some minor gear swaps to switch to a better-than-average string debuff build (I want a shadow coat...). And you can't land sleeps with harp? I call BS - your not trying.

This is the kind of crap that lead to BRDs forgoing all Skill for CHR for years (and even today). Instead of trying to understand and overcome, someone passes along some bogus rumor to avoid the issue entirely - and everyone else follows.

Then I guess I should be getting owned by dozens of mobs every time I mis-sleep a horde of mobs...

This is a mob that agros to magic, and sound.

I realize you're just looking for an excuse to bleed your e-vag in my general direction but citing ways that require more effort in response to a confession of laziness isn't exactly a shining moment in the history of intelligent statements.

Someone begged me to come brd for a kirin burn, I didn't feel like it, and I definitely didn't feel like changing, and I sure as fuck didn't care about curing. Ohshit quick, everyone, wipe! The bard isn't curing, our run is doomed! Doooooomed!

Yeah, sleep, sneak, and zone out.

I fail to see your point in pointing out that weapons magic aggro. You don't need silent oil to get around in sky.

Yeah, you're lazy. Welcome to being just like everyone else. I thought you prided yourself on being a decent player. At least, that's the garbage you vomit on every post you make. I'm glad you've finally been able to come to terms with reality.

So I guess what I'm getting at is.. You suck.

I suck. Mkay, is that all?

I was worried you thought a lack of cures from a bard during a kirin burn was actually a hazard.

I guess you're not as stupid as I thought.

I'll be over here giving a shit about what you think of my preference to not use oils and to not have to sleep agro.

Have an awesome day, Chief. And remember, you're awesome, and I suck.

Oh and for anyone wondering why this pissant drama is even making it on the boards; mah boy Sensui over here was at the run in question but apparently lacks the testicular fortitude to man the fuck up and say anything in person, or during the run, because that's how he rolls, and don't you dare question him because he's awesome, and he's just reminding me that I suck.

I guess back to the original point of the post. Don't listen to Arivale. They're just a lazy bard.
