Xbox Live to cost $100?

I better be getting monthly chocolates delivered to my house for them to increase the yearly cost by 100%. It's not that 100$ is a lot, its the fact they are charging you 50$ extra per year for what is deemed to be an essential-part of Xbox. There are no such features embedded (or that they can add) to Xbox live to actually make ppl think its a worthwhile investment

Yes, power-hungry assholes running dedicated servers that have shitty rules are stupid... but you can always join another server. Likewise, I suppose you can just leave a host's game (since host exiting is now moot) and find another one, but why pay $50/yr for that?

Anyone paying for Live! content is essentially paying for what they already can get for free. Maybe the PSN sucks to you, but at least you're not paying for glorified internet access.

Ive seen no difference at all in them either, their basically the same, thus why I dont pay for xboxlive or rather didnt while I owned an xbox.

The only difference between live and PSN is that on live you're pretty much guaranteed to only be matched against US/Can players cause they make up 99% of the userbase, this is why "connections are better" on live, THIS IS THE ONLY REASON. where on PSN you'll be matched up to a larger base since it's more popular globally.

If you think live is somehow better "because it's live!" you deserve to be ripped off.

Also a much larger portion of PSN users have it set up wirelessly thanks to the built in wifi on the PS3, which'll make a very minor impact on connections.

Assuming there's legitimacy to the claim that they're considering this, they probably figure that if you bought the console and are paying $50, you'll pay an extra $50 to keep doing whatever it is that you're doing through xbox live... and for alot of people, they're right.

What they're not thinking about is that the next time you get the red ring of death, you might finally get fed up enough with their bullshit to go buy a different console. After all, the whole point of buying a console over a PC is to avoid the type of compatability problems that they've been causing with their money-first priorities.

If they project that more than half of the current subscribers would pay the $100 (which is very feasible) then it's very possible they would still increase it.

I figured this might be the case, but the idea of them raising prices would follow the trend that they've been setting lately for raping their xbox live customers. Also, I disagree that they would not make money off this in the short term. Essentially they'd be doubling their prices without increasing spending of any kind. Long term, they'd be pissing people off though.
