Am I wooshing? both ps3 and xbox's prices "just dropped" so... the sales would be very comparable, but xbox is still losing ground.

Also, tack on an additional 50 rebate if people bought it till october15~ idk what the date was is trying to increase the sales short term, which also failed.

The low-end PS3 is now the same price as the XBox Elite. That's more than enough reason for people to make the switch now. No respectable XBox gamer ever buys the XBox Arcade.

Still, the numbers show that Nintendo is killing both of them in sales... it's just a motion-controlled GameCube on steroids. I'd be playing a PS3 right now if their games were even remotely different than PC games. What made the original PSX and even the PS2 so different was that the games weren't PC ports or PC clones, they were original titles (like Bushido Blade and Resident Evil) that changed gaming.

Then, of course, the XBox came out and PC went mainstream, and suddenly the PS3 wants to be a Blu-Ray player, gaming entertainment system, and a shoddy port-ridden system with no third-party original titles.

For Christ sake, the last 5-6 FPS games all featured a bald-headed, war-torn hero as the protagonist.

Hey, I don't care. Honestly if it came down to it and Wii didn't exist I'd probably have an XBox right now. I enjoy the games, even though I'm a Sony/Nintendo fan. I think the only reason I didn't bother with the XBox was the extra price for all the downloadable stuff.

I'm just not that hardcore a gamer anymore to where I really want to shell out extra money on a regular basis for 'cool shit'.

It's no surprise that the PS3 is selling very well right now, there's a lot of good deals from retailers trying to get rid of fat PS3 stock as well as a lot of interest in the Slim. Introducing the Slim at the $300 price point was a very smart move, and they're reaping the rewards. Whether it lasts will be something we'll see in the coming months.

On the actual topic, please, never listen to this guy again. He's infamous in the gaming community for being dead wrong on pretty much everything that isn't staring-everyone-in-the-face obvious. He doesn't work for MS. He doesn't work for Sony. He's just some random douchebag with a soapbox and a passion for making bad predictions.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that MS is pretty damn unlikely to jack XBL's price a) in the middle of a recession when discretionary spending is down down down, b) when they're facing stiffer competition from the PS3 than usual and c) right before the holiday season, when tons and tons of parents are going to be checking out which console to buy for their annoying little brats. If they were to raise prices, right now would be just about the worst time imaginable to do so.

And advertising. Microsoft have dropped the price too but have made hardly any effort to advertise it, whereas Sony dropping the price has been plastered everywhere you look (not only advertisement, but amongst gaming communities too) because it is a much bigger deal than the 360 drop.

I still stand by "affordable" being pretty partial, Affordable if you bought the arcade package, got no wifi, and didn't pay for a live subscription. Otherwise it was basically the same cost of the ps3... so I mean its all perspectives.
