    ATI HD4870 woes...

I have recently bought ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4870 Dark Knight 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail for my HTPC. Now the problem i'm having with this card is that it won't extend the desktop to the edge of the screen.

There is no problem with the TV. I tested it out with a different computer and it displays correctly. I have always owned a nVidia cards all my life and only bought this ATI card because it could do 7.1 channels through the DVI/HDMI output so I don't know the control panel for the card very well.

I'm at a total loss here and have no idea what to do or what setting to change. ATI experts PLEASE HELP ME D:

I also don't really know the ATI control panel, but look for some sort of scaling option.

What resolution do you have it set to? What TV are you using?

I had this issue when installing my newer ATI cards as well. The problem is that for some unknown reason CCC defaults the overscan/underscan to 15%, giving you the black borders around your desktop. To change this setting open CCC and go to your TV panel's properties. Move the overscan/underscan slider until the image fills the entire screen, apply, and fixed!

Oh god, thank you!!! I thought it might be a resizing problem at first but i couldn't for the life of me find the option to resize the desktop. Thanks everyone for offering their help!

    1. Open Catalyst Control Center.
    2. Switch to advanced view if not already open.
    3. Select your display from the menu tree on the left. Mine is labeled "DTV (HDMI)", but yours may read differently.
    4. Select the Scaling Options sub menu.
    5. Set the slider to the far right to Overscan 0%.
    6. Apply and done.
