Questions About the Dudes Down the Hall

So my husband and I live in an apartment building which is rather grubby. Our apartment is nice enough but the building as a whole is rather grungy.

I recently applied to become an officer in the navy and I really want to get in.

The problem is the dudes down the hall. These dudes smoke pot all the time. And by all the time I mean ALL the time.

Right now I'm sitting on the floor of our apartment at my floor desk with my laptop, with my heavy front door closed, and I can barely breath for the smell of pot. Opening the windows doesn't seem to help! Every time I walk out into the corridor the top half of the hall is a haze of pot smoke. Which I breath in in copious amounts.

If I have to take a drug test for my naval application will marijuana show up? Should I tell the testers about the dudes?

Should I do something about the dudes, like call the police or complain to the building superintendent? Remember that I live in Canada and pot is almost decriminalized here.

And these dudes are big dudes, so I don't want to pop them in the head.

Plus, they're nice enough dudes. Whenever they're sitting at the back entrance of our building to smoke their pot they are very gentlmanly and open the door for me.

If they are that nice have you tried talking to them? Maybe you can convince them to not smoke inside the building or to open a window in their apartment when they do or something along those lines.

It's highly unlikely you'll have enough THC in your system from that to show up on a drug test but if you want you could tell the recruiter you're worried about it and you could probably have the date changed for the test so you can try to clear your system. All you have to do is drink lots and lots of water for about a week and you'd be clean of anything that might show up.

Yes. They care a great deal. Mention anything besides trying pot once or twice and you're fucked from enlisting.

And you do have to take a drug test when you apply.

Admitting anything to the testers are going to send off a red flag to them and you could very well end up fucking yourself. Just call the cops, fuck em. If anything it will scare them enough to go smoke somewhere else.

All kidding aside, maybe you feel comfortable busting dudes for smoking pot, but I'm guessing that's probably got some karmic circumstances.

If it's worth it to you to potentially fuck these guys over by having them busted just because their pot smoking /might/ affect your drug test (and I'm about 99% sure it won't), then go for it. But that sounds pretty selfish to me.

Drug convictions on their record could prevent them from getting jobs. Do you want that on your conscience?

If smoking pot is illegal and they are still smoking, then they are clearly ready to accept any consequences from doing so. There should be nothing on anyones conscience for ratting on them.

They're smoking pot in their own home and not bothering anyone. It's a bullshit law with penalties that don't fit the crime. I acknowledge that they're adults and should take responsibility for their actions, but they're not harming anyone. Maybe you've never committed a crime in your life, but most people have and were glad someone wasn't pissy enough to bust them for it.
