For someone in the financial sector you make some pretty dumb assumptions.

I just got hired to a great company working in a field I had been trying to get into for months after I graduated. If we didn't bail out the financials, I can assure you that I would still be unemployed, you probably would be too.

Unemployment has increased every month since Obama has taken office. If we didn't bail out financials, they would have quickly failed, and other corporations would pick up the slack, minimizing the length of the depression. But, because you stuck billions of government dollars, the companies might still fail. But instead of punishing the crappy corporations by letting them fail, you decide to keep them afloat at punish the rest of us instead by spending money we don't have, letting the people who worked for the corporation stay afloat, but potentially putting everyone else's jobs in jeopardy as you make them pay for jobs that shouldn't exist.

A lot more people in this country would be unemployed, A LOT. So i'm sorry we bailed out the financials and avoided a depression, and please, spare me the "free market" demands this and that, I don't care.

The "free market" isn't perfect, but it is self-correcting. It makes people compete to be the best. If we let capitalism's losers float by, everyone else must make up the slack, which means that you often do more harm than good.

As for the "avoided a depression" comment, we are in a depression, deeper and prolonged thanks to bailouts and stimulus funds. Last time I checked, we were in as deep as we ever were.

Now stop watching Glenn Beck and stop regurgitating everything he says, he is the real moron.

I guess we will just agree to disagree. I think things would have been a lot worse. The free market dictates that better institutions would come about, but it doesn't say how long that would take, It could have take 3,4, 5 years or longer. Of course that is just speculation, but it is also speculation saying that the "depression" would have been shorter if we didn't bail out the financials than if we did.

That it's a sinkhole for billions of tax dollars and a death trap for hundreds, maybe thousands, of US troops. This is all to prop up a hopelessly corrupt, dope profiteering, unpopular regime. It's a war that outside of a handful of hard headed generals, unreconstructed Bush neo-cons, and GOP ideologues few Americans think is worth fighting.

Obama is somewhere in the middle of the mess. At one time he was gung ho to fight in Afghanistan no matter the costs. He's now not so sure. He's had a plan on his desk for weeks to dump more money and troops into the country, and every day the generals pester him to do it. His uncertainty about it has turned into a stall of the generals who yap at his heels to escalate the war. But his stall hasn't turned into a toughened stomach lining that would allow him to say no to escalation, and then get the wheels turning to get the US out of the no-win war. Obama's tin ear to Hoh's warning about flawed administration policy could be disastrous politically and personally for him.

A majority of Obama's most fervent backers have gently chided him for his blindness on the war. These are the supporters he will need in order to beat back the GOP counterinsurgency against him, to make gains or at least cut potential Democratic losses in the midterm elections in 2010, and to back his shaky health care reform package. Afghanistan looms large as Obama and the Democratic Party's Vietnam, if Hoh's warning is not heeded.

Betcha this guy supported Obama when he acted on Afghanistan, betcha.
