Okay, I'd like to clear up the "magic accuracy is for IJ" shit, it doesn't work because IJ is still considered a physical spell. At least as far as I know it is still considered a physical spell, only way to honestly test this is to use it on a magic immune person and see what it does. Assuming you can even be magic immune for a period in this game.

But, I'm sticking with it being a Physical spell over magical.

You can dodge it with Contract of Resistance (SM skill that dodges magic only). But if you're choosing gear for Magic Acc over more useful stats, reroll. >.>

That being said, is there a reason why no one seems to use Bodyguard?

If you can manage hate good enough it isn't necessary, you could be making more use of your stigma slot by adding another Provoke to just keep on adding to the hate, the cool down is honestly perfect for me.

When my other stigma opens up I hope to god I have Iron Skin by then somehow.

    Er..

Iron Skin is an ability, you get it at 40, which is the same level you get your 4th Stigma slot.

Woops, for some reason I thought it was a Stigma, it's a pretty useful skill.

If you can manage hate well enough, why would you need another provoke?

Doesn't it also apply the original target's defense to the damage dealt to the templar, rather than the templar's? And I think you have to be close enough and doesn't work when casters run around or something. Could be wrong, I haven't made it that far yet.

It works exactly like Cover from FFXI, all damage the target would be taking is transferred to the Templar; so it does use the targets defense in a way. That's not really an issue as 40+ Templars can get easily over 10k hp, the average caster hovers at ~3.5-5k (also more than likely the tank is getting healed >.> )

Range is 10m, but how often are you as a Templar more than 10m from your other groupmembers?

Helps manage the hate even better so you don't have mobs running around back at the person who happens to have hate other than you, so you don't have to use bodyguard in the first place. You're the one who asked, I am just answering my personal preference.

You are correct, it is merely a transfer of damage from them to you. So it does use their defensive stats, resists, etc. However I do see group members farther than 10m away. Especially the ONLY person I would use Bodyguard on, my cleric. That being said, if they are getting hit, you better be standing next to them trying to get that monster off of them. There are some situations where this would be useful, however because a cleric can easily tank most any monster for a short time, this ability tends to be of far less use than Cover was in XI.

Most Templars will choose to take Break Power at the level you get access to Bodyguard, if only for the ability to solo more efficiently. Before level 40, having access to both Provoking Roar and Incite Rage offer more control in a number of situations with multi-pulls tends to create enmity issues. Sure you can take some damage from someone (normally one that can take the hit for a short time anyway) but with more threat, you can eliminate the need to do so entirely.

Managing hate well on a single mob is easy. Where you would normally need to use an ability like Bodyguard would be on that second, third, or fourth mob in a hectic pull scenario (see Lepharist Labs in Morheim for an example.) Depending on how fast you kill, that second mob should be an easy threat target. However, that third and fourth target will have such a high level of enmity on your CC and your Healer that while Bodyguard will help for a short time, having that extra spike enmity ability will make more of a difference in their survival than Bodyguard would.

So it's come down to this again, I have to choose whether to sell a piece of gear I might actually want to use. Dropped off Queen Kint, it sells for 300k at ebay. I was going to slap it on but I am 2 levels too low, just reluctant now on whether to sell now and buy gear at 38, camp for more of them later. Gah decisions, decisions.

2 crit for 68 HP? I know the difference in Magic Resist is quite large as well, but not sure the effects of MR in a PvE environment where there are not many casters to really deal with.

Yeah it's the Magic Resist that is pretty tempting, extra flight time is always could, I could always just swap them, situational use.. shit still don't know haha.

I say sell, not worth losing 68 hp for lol9second more flight and 2 crit rate which ends up only being 0.2% crit.

Is the level 30 abyss purchasable gear worthwhile? It seems to boost physical defense a bit more than what I'm currently wearing but while probably phase out in a few levels as it is. Best to save up for the end game buyable crap for PvP or pick up pieces as I can afford them?

Shoulders and gloves are really the only two worthwhile pieces to get. Pending the class, you usually get the gloves first since Attack Speed, contrary to it's name, actually speeds up animations for -all- classes. Sorcerers Cast Faster, Clerics heal faster and ofc, Templars kick more ass faster.

And I'd assume they could last till somewhere in the 40s, where people can start crafting golds with ASPD on them.

    Simple question: Mace or Sword?

    Depends.

Xenophone's Quest: Mace, extendable is so much more useful then 4% more crit, especially for kiting Rangers, Clerics and Sorcerers.

But other then that, S&B for tanking and GSword for soloing.

You kite those classes? I'm pretty sure they kite us.
