There was a question about the useful of the Macc pair earrings for RDM and BRD, my question is for BLM: Considering pairing of multiple earrings, where would these fall in terms of optimal use? Example: Novio/Moldavite > Novio/Phantom +1 > Moldavite/Phantom +1, etc.
DRG is usually pushing 100+ base damage, making 3 STR a >0.75% increase; the value of 9 Attack is obviously going to vary with buffs and mob Defense but I don't see it ever being less than a 0.75% increase unless pDIF is capped. Thrakon is really only winning here due to the much-needed accuracy.
Thrakon has 7 Attack, not 9, making it technically 8.75 less than Assault after adding in Attack from STR but I was being convenient with the rounding. A % increase in your attack alone is a poor description of the stat's value; make a comparison using pDIF and the value increases significantly. I'm not saying Thrakon doesn't win (and the changes in other gear are a valid point that completely defeats Assault), just that in a static environment with capped acc Assault is superior.
dnc 71, behe/behe vs behe/cobra?
For Magic Bursts: Novio/Static (the MB one, right?) > Novio/Moldavite > Novio/Phantom+1 (or other INT+2) > The sibling earring pair.
Non-Magic Bursts: Novio/Moldavite > Novio/Phantom+1 > sibling earrings.
Really, since they're only MAB+5/Macc+5 I'd only consider using them on more resistant targets where you're going for a 320/120 type build. But then if you've got Novio/Phantom+1 already I'd just go with that. Better damage and the Macc difference is pretty negligible.
The -INT and -MND is only a 'problem' if it reduces your WSC (after all the flooring), which it may do, but won't always.
As for capping attack on high def mobs, I will bow to your greater experience on the matter, but I was working off the assumption that if SAM can cap attack with gekko on most mobs, the DRK (with 48 free attack and better attack gear) would be able to with Spinning and Spiral.
But the point is (which I think we both agree with):
If attack capped then Ares, else Cuisses.
How and where attack is capped is down to buffs, other gear etc.
Better attack gear? What? Are you saying this because sams don't wear attack gear and opt for str because they cap attack? If so, perhaps you should realize a SS drk is in the same boat.
Anyway, you're ignoring sam's have berserk, very comparable attack gear that they opt to not wear, and the ability to use a riceball build. DRKs do have more attack base, but a sam can easily beat that, they just have no reason to.
I was referring to Adaberk, bomb core, onyx and a few other pieces which have large amounts of attack that SAM can't use. Granted I didn't think about berserk or thinks like b.kotes (not that they would use for GKT), which pretty much nullifies my point about SAM attack
My point was, that a DRK using SS or SH are likely to be getting close to the point where they are capped on attack on most targets (like SAM and Y/G/K)
Nameless said that in his experience he didn't think that DRK would have capped attack on mobs that make SS and SH are really 'worth it', so attack gear is still viable.
I was just explaining my thought process (badly comparing SAM and DRK)
I was wondering I'm better off using STR earrings on WS, instead of Suppa/Brutal for Savage Blade, Expiacion, and Vorpal Blade. This is the rest of my gear for them. 8/8 Sword, no STR merits.
Expiacion: 2 hits, 30% STR, 30% INT
Morrigan's Coronal/Peacock Charm (No Soil Gorget yet)/Suppanomimi/Brutal Earring
Morrigan's Robe/Alkyoneus's Brc./Flame Ring x2
Smilod. Mantle +1/Warwolf Belt/Morrigan's Slops/Morrigan's Pigaches
Savage Blade: 2 hits, 30% STR, 50% MND
Morrigan's Coronal/Thunder Gorget/Suppanomimi/Brutal Earring
Morrigan's Robe/Alkyoneus's Brc./Flame Ring x2
Smilodon Mantle +1/Warwolf Belt/Morrigan's Slops/Morrigan's Pigaches
Vorpal Blade: 4 hits (Crit), 30% STR
Morrigan's Coronal/Thunder Gorget/Suppanomimi/Brutal Earring
Enkidu's Harness/Enkidu's Mittens/Flame Ring x2
Cuchulain's Mantle/Warwolf Belt/Mirage Shalwar +1/Creek M Clomps
I realize Triumph Rings are better for Savage Blade (No MND penalty), but Flame Rings are better for Cannonball... and no way I'm buying/carrying 2 of each. Feel free to point out anything you see wrong with these sets, and make suggestions to make them better. Thanks.
The thing about Drk vs Sam is berserk, and the fact that Gekko is 100% ratio bonus compare to 50% ratio bonus of SS. So it makes it really easy to cap when they have berserk up, and if not, Gekko's bonus will most likely cover it anyway.
Also, SAMs have a greater reason to stack up str since they got a 75% mod >< SS is only really 30%
A few points-
-Definitely stick with brutal earring in one of the slots; however, if accuracy is capped, you can substitute a Triumph Earring in for Suppa.
-On the point of accuracy, optimum setups will of course vary with food and monster target
-I use Enkidu Subligar over Mirage for Vorpal Blade, and Amemet+1 over Smilodon +1 (although when I get a Cuchulain's, I'll use that Vorpal)
-Do you have the AMK helm tied up in another job? If not then that could be used for a great Vorpal blade head piece over Morrigan's.
Thanks for the pointers.
As far as ACC goes, I normally eat some sort of sushi, unless I'm in Campaign or something. I never use BLU for "anything that matters", so targets are basically merit mobs (birds 90% of the time), and sometimes limbus.
I didn't finish AMK yet, but I'll probably end up getting some INT stuff for SCH.
In that case, you'll be capped for Vorpal Blade on Greater Colibri when using Crab sushi. I'm not sure what your exact accuracy is, but you're probably a bit under for Expiacion/Savage Blade.
I'm trying to decide between back pieces for Spinning Slash and Groundstrike.
My options are:
Forager's (Enmity+1 augment)
Smilodon +1 (Att+3 augment)
Cuchulain's
Current setup is:
Naglering/Rose/Bomblet
Heca/Breeze/Folwing/Brutal
Ares/Alky/Rajas/Flame
???/Warwolf/Ares/Heca
Faith Torque versus WS Gorget for Stringing Pummel. I don't have one yet, but I have 8/8 h2h merits so the +7 skill would give me an extra point of base damage.
