    Metro 2033

Didn't see a posting about this yet, but I saw an interesting trailer on kotaku.

It looks like a strange hybridization of Fallout3 and Stalker. Personally I love post-apocalypse games, people's visions of how the world is going to end. They usually have a good story and message to tell. I haven't heard much about this game other than what's on the kotaku article and the announcement from THQ.

I'm looking forward to this so far. :D

Here's the synopsis from the book it's based on:
The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct. The half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind. But the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory, the stuff of myth and legend. More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. Mutated by radiation, they are better adapted to the new world. Man's time is over. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on earth. They live in the Moscow Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become mini-statelets, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. It is a world without a tomorrow, with no room for dreams, plans, hopes. Feelings have given way to instinct - the most important of which is survival. Survival at any price. VDNKh is the northernmost inhabited station on its line. It was one of the Metro's best stations and still remains secure. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared. Artyom, a young man living in VDNKh, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro, to the legendary Polis, to alert everyone to the awful danger and to get help. He holds the future of his native station in his hands, the whole Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.

Downloading right now, and quite excited for it. Getting close-ish to the end of FF13, so this should fill out the rest of my Spring Break.

I really hadn't heard any news at all of this game before about a month or two ago, it still seems weird to me how 'fast' it came out. Looks like a very interesting mix of STALKER and Fallout.

Been waiting on the reviews for this game, but I've been really excited for it. I kinda hope it's bad just so I don't have to shell out another $60 for yet another game this spring, but at the same time I want it to be so good. I am shamefully addicted to post-apocalyptic themed things.

My primary concern about the game was how short it was, past that everything looks damn well polished (but doesn't every preview that's screenshot/pre-made video?)

I'll have to download this at least. I'll buy it later on when I actually have the cash to spare. ;\

The game still does look quite good. But it's also a card-killer, unless I'm missing something. Here's some screenshots from the first minutes of chapter 1.

And my settings that all these were taken on

Even a lowered resolution from the 1680x1050 that my monitor normally does and no AA at all, I'm still only getting 40-50fps in towns, 20-35fps in combat with my Radeon HD4870. Then again, I have a faulty card that likes to overheat, anyways, so maybe my results aren't quite right.

Kind of offtopic but have you tried installing something like Rivatuner than manually turning the fan up? I have a 4870x2 and it'll hit 85C if I don't manually crank the fan up.

I hate knocking it for being Russian since they try pretty damn hard for a country not known at all for (good) games, but this is just so goddamn lulzy. The grenade part was my favorite by far.

How well does this game run for you guys?

    My comp stats are:

    Intel Quad Core q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz
    4 MB RAM
    Radeon hd4850 512 MB

Might have to upgrade my video card, what do you guys think?

You might be fine, this game is very well coded. Grab the steam demo and give it a twirl.
