    741

Getting 64bit professional requires like 2 extra clicks, the default is 32bit home premium. I'm backing shit up atm before I install 64bit home premium from that site. Note that only UK/US members can use that site for now... other countries have to dig through the M$ website to get started with the purchase.

Currently using Vista Ultimate 64bit, and I'm heavy into gaming and not much else.

Which version of 7 should I be upgrading to, and can I get that version through 741?

I'm not really sure if I still have a .edu email anymore considering I've been out of school for over a year and am not starting again till next fall overseas, but we'll see.

You probably want to stick with Ultimate, which you can't get through student purchasing. Professional might be just fine, however, and you can get that for $30 through 741.

I don't use any of the Ultimate features, so it's not really an issue.

I just want to make sure I get one that is best compatible for a gaming pc (ie not a lot of bullshit or maybe a watered down version) that still has necessities and ix 64bit.

Get x64 professional. Installed it on my macbook pro, and it's working like a champ. As an edit, I'm running BF2142 just fine, which is notoriously hard to get to run on vista properly.

I had a choice between 32 bit and 64 bit professional (or both if I really wanted both). It was through one of my college's computer classes.

Pass the crack rocks; Windows is still years behind in adopting industry standards where Linux and OSX are still at the cutting edge.

The major difference between Vista and 7 is that they paid for a fuckton of hype to convince the sheep "It's not Vista!"... It's hilarious to see the same people who threw stones at Vista jizz over Windows 7.

I would love to know also. Linux, we'll talk. OSX? Please.

Full 64 bit adoption? Multi-threading engine? OpenCL support? ZFS and other 128bit file systems? DisplayPort(minor, since HDMI will likely eclipse it), Edith how could I forget, true seamless multi-alphabet support. That's just *right now*. One of the benefits of being a closed platform is being able to add new features without concern for legacy support.

    Linux, we'll talk. OSX? Please.
This is pretty telling so you know, that you think there's a significant difference. And this isn't meant to be a de-rail, I'm not saying Windows7 is bad, I was in the camp that Vista wasn't bad. Just hilarious to see people so hype for Vista2 when so little has actually changed outside some fancy new graphics.
