More of a directed question then the (Returning players thread); but has anything really changed crafting wise since late 2009; early 2010? Or is everything pretty much just the same with this synergy thing being the only change?

The relative abundance in the economy of certain crafting materials has been dramatically altered by new sources of those materials such as Abyssea and Voidwatch, and other factors. Meanwhile, a lot of top end gear synths have been made obsolete. Prices on some things are therefore a lot different, changing skillup paths, etc.
I got a little problem. While I could HQ the body hands and legs of the valkyre set in 10 tries max. The cursed helm just gives me a problem. 0/20 (yaie not a big try).
I Hqd the other ones with smithing support (112 in skill), except for legs which were done with GS support (since on BGwiki they are listed as a 98 smithing craft, so I dont need Smithign support for T1 on main).
Now I checked on BGwiki for the helm and it states 96 smithing. so i went with the same procedure as with legs. however now I am at 0/20... I went to search on other sites.
BGwiki states: 96 smithing GS ???
zham: 99 smithing GS ???
sompega: 99 smithing GS ???
some JP recipe site: 95 smithing GS ???
could someone pls clarify which it is >.<
While not very helpful I'd imagine given how less frequentallly those are done an exact number would be hard to come by and I'd just go with the highest. Also 0/20 isn't exactly uncommon on T1 easily could be a small run of bad luck
well 0/8 now with smithing support instead of GS support
in total 0/28, this synth is driving me crazy
EDIT: just went 1/10 with Smithing support ¬.¬
Returning to game today and have been reading up on new items/synths. A ton of the new crafted stuff is missing skill levels on main/subs on FFXIAH, ffxiclopedia, etc. Is there any currently updated site where I can find this info? Or do I just need to man up and start experimenting?
Naked 100 craft with Mega Mog (stall) I should be at 105 right?
Posted this in Advanced, figured I shoulda posted it here instead:
How expensive is Goldsmithing to take to 100 nowadays? Level 19 currently, haven't touched it in years I think. Any up-to-date guides to level it?

Just remember this when you go to bed at night with a damp pillow from tears from wasted southern pearls.
Ass. :D
This is the kind of question that can never really be answered because it depends on how hard you push and how you play the market. However, compared to the old days, gold is a lot cheaper than it used to be. Compared to most everything else, it's still expensive. If you choose to power-level it, you'll still lose millions of gil. If I had to ball-park that loss, I'd say that 60-100 could cost around 15M. Not terrible, really.
The most up-to-date guide I know for 60-100 is http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.htm...50127115975838 Make sure to read the entire thread. Geodes (cap 51) were an option in the 40s, but the demand for both geodes and gems has temporarily jacked that. The goldsmithing category recipe lists on GE wiki are up-to-date (although individual item pages may not be).
I fished a huge number of gold ingot stacks when they were expensive by turning in dorado gar to Zaldon. I kept it a secret since at the time but it doesn't matter now that gold ingots are dirt cheap...None the less it's an option to collect a fair number of gold ingots if you have fishing leveled.
Looking for gold sub level on Cursed Solerets. Anyone knows? I searched a bit, but no luck.
Anyone else think that there is an extra tier for crafting that no one has mentioned? I've gone literally over 1/1500 on hqs while skilling up on something higher than my skill (after adv. support.) That's a lot lower than the proposed 1% HQ rate for t0. Interestingly enough, after I'm done skilling up and I go to make a true t0 item, I end up HQing it. I mean obviously I don't have enough data to support anything yet, but of the three times that I craft in batches of ~500 for skill up, immediately after I've HQ'd an item.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm almost sure that there's a tier below t0, but I'd like to think that the three HQs were all coincidence and I'm just being crazy like a direction facing/moonphase lunatic.
I should mention that I've always thought this even while skilling up during my other 3 100 crafts, but I never did enough synths in a row to have conclusive data.
EDIT:
In response to the person up there asking, I'm currently leveling goldsmithing to 100 now, and I have not followed that guide one bit. I went from 0-72 in under 1 week and I've spent maybe... 3-4M tops. If you want, you can PM me and I can tell you the route I took. 75/78ish - 100 is basically going to be free as well, so goldsmithing is dirt cheap now.
Any info on Cursed Breastplate sub craft levels?
@ Ramzii - There's rumored to be a Tier -1, this is purely off my memory, but the theory behind T-1 says you can only HQ if you're within -3 or maybe -5 levels from the cap. Beyond then you will never HQ. Maybe someone else remembers the exact level difference.
I think 5 makes sense as you need to be within 10 levels of the item to even be able to synth it. The problem is that I generally try to stay within 4 levels of the item I'm synthing and I've never once gotten an HQ then. The only times I got HQs were when I was within 1-2 levels of capping, so it's probably 3.
I've never HQd below skill cap after all +skill, and had just always assumed it was impossible. Kind of interesting to see that it's actually possible.
