The belts suck and don't stack with synth support from the npc.

I'm aware of that, but it doesn't answer my question. If it's +3 I can get one and skill up 60-70 on my subs while afield farming the materials.

I believe regular crafting belts are +3, the only reason I say that is because I tested fishing belt to be +2 which matches the adv support of npc.

Could "easily" test it if you could find a synth that is 18 levels above your cap, try to synth with belt support. I believe it should allow you to try. If you care about mats engage a mob from a distance.

Well, no, but I'm pretty sure I remember IDs changing somehow as I skilled up. I have a mule with low fishing skill, might take him out to Talacca sometime and verify that.

Our speculation was specifically in terms of defining "when" a fish auto depletes, stays stagnant, and auto regens. The fact that a fish "could" vary in level between casts would account for the fact that fish are doing those 3 things at various levels above known skill caps.

Thus, my speculation that they could vary in level, however I also find that to be odd since there are really only 2 ID's per fish (usually). Either they vary in level, or another factor determines the other 3 that were being used.

It could also be hidden in the other numbers from your ID string, where a certain number determines the autoregen/depletion/stagnant. I saw that someone speculated different numbers determined ferociousness of the fish, it could be that this number determines the regen or one of the two in the middle that I didn't see an explanation for.

If we could account for that and find a known level for certain fish, we might be able to somewhat more easily determine other fish levels if there are constants (for example, Epic Catch always occurring at 'x' level below cap)

Edit: Alright, I know which ID is the Keen Angler Hak now. Since I've renamed, I've hooked 1 Keen Angler Hak vs. 1,132 Epic Catch/Not Enough Skill/etc Haks.

Regarding fishes having different levels, I have no hard facts, but I do have the 723 Lik I fished up, and in my experience there were three sorts of Lik

#1) Normal Lik; it would fight hard, and it took me work to land them, but I would get almost all of them.
#2) Sleepy Lik; These guys would be surprisingly slow and sluggish, super easy to deplete in comparison to Normals. Less line snaps too
#3) Bugf#ck Crazy Lik; These would just go nuts, impossible for me to land, rarely stopped swinging the rod. Hateful things.

The huge majority of them were Normals, but over the years I that I fished my Lik, I became convinced there were different levels of the things.

Could it also just be whatever random number generator system is used to keep the fish in each location for X number of seconds between 0 and 3ish? Most fish fall in that average range of some fast swings, some stuck to each side. Some (sleep) tend to fall in the stuck on each side for 3 seconds range, then your crazy fucks tend to hit the 0-1 second chance over and over.

    cdgreg,

That is a very solid idea about what could be happening, and probably fits what we know about the game coding better then the fish having random levels. Good thinking.

I've always taken the belt as +3, seen by my T1 rates. After 200+ synths easy with them (gone thru 3 of them, as a clothcrafter with my HP being either bastok or jeuno for years, or Aht Urghan when Guild NPCs were actually a thing of question) I feel safe saying +3.

Do desynth success/HQ rates depend on level? Specifically, should I bother levelling to skill cap or is it ok to chill 15 points below

Even 1 point below the cap for a desynth, you're going to break like 2/3s of the time.

I thought it was fail 2/3 of the time at or above?

    I thought it was:
1/3 success 1/3 crit fail 1/3 nq fail
then HQ rates are all even
for at or above skill cap

I'm asking about levels far below skill cap

I don't know the percentages, but I can say that being at cap makes a huge difference. I was 1 level below the Orcish Goldmask cap and I don't think I got a single ingot without using support until I leveled a bit more.
