Any clothcrafter's been able to sell Areion boots??

I made a pair a week ago and have been bazaaring since then. Started at 6 mil, slowly lowering price. Just curious to see if anyone else has had luck with AH/baz.
The only pair on AH sold for 5 mil but it was to the same person that put it up in the first place.

So, I spent some time today skilling Goldsmithing from 54 to 57.2 on Gold Hairpins with Kitron Macrons.

I spent an equal/greater amount of time desynthing Gold Hairpins back to Gold Ingots with Advanced Support. Here were my experiences:
Level 54 with Advanced Support: Breaks left and right, very very few successes but I was generally pretty good about keeping my mats.
Level 55 with Advanced Support: Probably 50% successes. - Very notable and dramatic increase. Going by other things I've seen posted, I assume this means the desynth recipe "caps" at 58 and dinging 55 made me Tier 0 on it instead of Tier -1.
    Level 55 - 57.2 :: I spent 84 Lightning Crystals with about a 50% success rate and saw 0 skillups.

Is it possible to skill up on desynths?

    PS. Hexed Doublet -1 {Do you need it?}

I would swear that I've done it, but it's been a very long time. I remember skilling on desynths as being possible, but so rare that it's not worthwhile (aside from the return of materials).

Probably a decent way to confirm this is desynths of something at a low level where skillups are more common to start with.

Yes. I never got one while doing goldsmithing, and I desynthd a fuckton of stuff to get my ingots back or ingots in the first place (stuff that should have gave skill ups).

When doing some other subs, I've got a skill up more than once and thought it was odd because of how many times I hadn't on gold.

yes can skillup on desynths. did on goldsmithing in the exact situation you describe. Again, rare, but you're not gonna sell those bitches.

I would echo that you can skill off desynth. Did it on bonecraft (I think) but again it was very, very rare.

Got a couple desynthing Leathercrafted stuff recently. Very rare though.

You really desynth to get materials. Any skillups are a lucky bonus. Breaksynthing on the otherhand works well.

On a different matter, is anyone selling any Ugol? Noone is selling it on Quetz, I'd assume because noone wants...

worst advice I ever got. Was advised when skilling clothcraft to breaksynth Rasetsue Samue from 98-99 so to avoid spending all the gil on Galateia for Blessed Briaults (pre-Argent Coats) or doing Dalmaticas for 2 levels. I blew so much damn gil on those 10 skillups, rarely kept mats. I would have been better off in the long run to just level my smithing up then (of course I did later) and just NPC'ing the damn things.

Caution on the breaksynthing- if you're going to do it make sure you are looking at a relatively cheap synth. For me, at least, the skillup rate was nowhere near as good as normal synthing. No data to back it up, just 40+ synths for 10 skillups was enough for me to not try it again.

I did way back when on gold hairpins iirc. And think I got one during muscle belts too. Been forever though shit is rare and most recipes I do it's better to either npc, keep for another recipe or ah

I did muscle belts, some shield, etc. Saved a lot more money than if I had finished the synth and npc'd it.

    Rasetsu Samue

    Steel Sheet
    Darksteel Sheet
    Square Of Velvet Cloth
Square Of Black Tiger Leather x2
    Spool Of Rainbow Thread
    Square Of Raxa x2

I skilled up Leathercraft to make Dance shoes to get myself to 98, so making tiger leather was no issue, I had plenty of it already and just made what I didn't have, that saved a lot of gil. Rainbow thread, again making my own was negligible, except for time spent.

Raxa was lost on every break, just as Siren's Hair, Galateia, etc. were lost prior to moglification. I was breaksynthing due to not having skilled up smithing enough, so I couldn't make the steel/darksteel sheets (dur). At that time they were quite expensive. Between losing every square of raxa I purchased, I would then lose additional mats. Didn't say I crit failed every one, I just said "rarely kept mats". I could have been clearer- I rarely kept more than negligible mats- say a velvet cloth and a steel sheet, or if lucky, both sheets and a rainbow thread.

I could have been NPC'ing these for 23k. The materials that I saw saved on average each synth was in no way worth that much gil. 4k for a rainbow thread, 6k max for a sheet of velvet cloth, 4k for the two tiger leathers total, if you made all that yourself- that right there was only 14k. Assume none of that breaks AND you didn't lose a steel sheet, and then you broke even with what you could have just went to an NPC and gotten guaranteed.

Again I say, breaksynthing on some synths may work. On the synth that was suggested as the way to get clothcraft 98-99 back in the day via breaksynthing, I would have been so much better just skilling up my smithing prior (which of course you will do later), then NPC'ing the successes rather than hope for some minor return on mats.

Prices of materials fluctuate. This just illustrates why you need to do your homework for current prices and not just blindly follow a guide or recommendation. It's not hard to estimate how much you'll lose on mats break-synthing, and it's not hard to find out how much you can NPC a successful synth for. At the height of inflation, damn near everything was a better deal to break-synth. Now, not so much.

Yeah I remember times where I cringed at every break even if it was something I was going to end up npcing. Hell on somethings I still do considering how often I tend to lose the expensive stuff. I definitely do not miss those days. I do however miss warp synthing days

It doesn't need to be a cheap synth, just needs to be cheaper than the alternatives. If you're planning on NPCing the products or desynthing, then you would have been better off breaksynthing (with the right moghancement). With Goldsmithing, you used to really take a bath 60-77 (probably still do!) but by a bit of planning in keeping your smithing down, you could cut your losses by about half.

Skillups are about the same as normal synthing. I breaksynthed Gold 69-78
69-73 (Shrimp Lanterns) took 125 synths (31.25 synth / level)
73-77 (Gold Gauntlets) took 148 synths (37.0 synth / level)
77-78 (Gold Cuirass) took only 24 synths (just good luck!)

    for Shrimp Lanterns I broke 53 Moblinum Sheets (42.4%), 61 Tin Ingots (48.9%) 55 Mob Putty (44.0%), 54 Beeswax (43.2%)
Averages about 45% with the right Moghancement which was way cheaper than any alternatives at the time, considering Gold Ingots were 25k each at the time.
Obviously though, you have to plan it and keep the subsynth level down.

just dinged smithing 100 earlier today got lucky on my break synths on 99-100 did adaman gauntlets. my question now is as far as my sub crafts now that they can be 70. Do i break any Tiers by taking them to 70, atm smithing 111(need gloves) LC60 CC60 GS60 and i dont see anything that requires bone so its lvl 9 but for things like cursed hauberks and breastplates do i need to raise my subs or am i good as is? same question for new hexed gear. thanks for help
