I appreciate the review, definitely gonna see it ASAP. Was supposed to go on friday, but no ride D:
Thanks :D It's always nice to hear feedback no matter what kind it is. I try to keep the site updated, usually once a day at least to post a couple of interesting articles in my own words. My friend and I run a podcast together as well, usally going over news, and movie reviews and such. Just our 2 cents kinda thing. Follow me on facebook if you want! Trying to get a bigger audience and every bit helps!
Bad movie. For Scorsese, unconscionably bad. Five minutes in, you will be rolling your eyes at the way he is assaulting you with the atmosphere. It lets up after that, but you'll have the entire movie figured out by then, and while the performances are pretty good they're not worth sticking around for more than two more hours for.
Good movie from a mystery standpoint but did give clues to what's going on throughout the movie.
Spoiler: show
Who played the blonde?
I loved the movie. Leo was great in it. I kinda knew what was gonna happen but it did toss in a few red herrings just to throw you off. The payoff was worth it though.
Definitely worth seeing
So you hated a movie whose main draw in is the atmosphere because of said atmosphere? Or is there more to it then that? From the reviews I've seen, they've all either loved it or hated it, no middle ground. I'll see it regardless but I'm curious as to why you didn't like it.
Since comparisons to The Shining are inevitable, let me use that as my example. Think back to the opening, the drive up to the Overlook. The music sets a tone of foreboding through the title credits and into the introduction scene to the hotel, then it halts and the movie proceeds.
Imagine that amped-up tension going on for five more minutes and when the discordant strings finally fade and the plot starts advancing you're left with a setting that simply doesn't hold up to that level of build-up. That is the beginning of Shutter Island.
still seems like a movie decent i saw parts of the movie beening filmed on a island across from my town and though the plot looked intersting
yo this movie was cash yo, leo and marty my nigs fo real, rorscach was tight too
movie was horrible. anyone expecting it's going to be good with no background what-so-ever to fuel you to want to see it, don't.
How can I be a fanboy of something I haven't seen?
having in an opinion against a movie is a bad thing? i believe constructive criticism is a good thing. i made a valid point. people who have read the books may have a drive to go and see it and have the ability to compare it to the original book itself.
however as I stated those who have no fuel and just want to see it because the previews make it look good should not. where was i wrong?
Ok where to start. Firstly, I said it's ok to have those feelings (disliking or liking it alike). Your post offered no constructive criticism of the movie, and if you are trying to offer constructive criticism, maybe you should talk to the director instead of people on BG. You said background, I assumed you meant at least the trailer or the various spoilers ever now and then. I didn't think you were referring to people who read the book. Also, saying you didn't like it does not help me at all. Saying you don't like it because of x and because of y and because of z do. That's all I was asking for, I asked weeks the same thing.
And Kyo, I have no idea what you're trying to say.
