A little late to the party, but I just saw the movie last night.

I thought it was good. I agree with other posters in regards to the cinematography, historical accuracy, etc. I also think the writing was good, which others may disagree with. I feel like the differences (or lack there of) between reality and the hallucinations/dreams benefitted from being so similar and undifferentiated. The ending was really good, I felt. The final line left things open in regards to your interpretation (of course not open in regards to a sequel).

I personally felt that Andrew had to be faking his final relapse. I judged his nod to the head psychologist and his willing standing up and walking with the guards, orderlies, and Nazi psychologist to be an indication that when he said, (paraphrasing) "Is it worse to live as a monster or die slowly with no feeling?" or whatever he knew what his words just prior to that, speaking as though he still believed his PCP was still Chuck, would result in him and he desired that emotionless, memory-less outcome as opposed to living with the undeniable knowledge of his children's death and his consequental murder of his wife.

My girlfriend just simply felt that he relapsed and didn't get that explanation ?_? But it was 12:30 AM when we got out so I'll cut her some slack...

Okay AFAIK this has not yet been addressed in this thread. What the FUCK was up with that CUP OF WATER? It has been driving me nuts since I saw this last week. I enjoyed the film a lot, but that one cup of water scene, and just general continuity issues in general with this movie really bothered me. I don't think they were overlooked issues, but I can't see their importance to the film either.

When Leo is interviewing patients, one of them asks for a cup of water and Mark Ruffalo goes to get it. While he is gone, she writes a warning on the napkin and slides it to Leo. When Mark Ruffalo returns with the water, she takes a sip of water... except in the shot, there is no glass in her hands but her hands are shaped like she is holding a glass. The next shot is her putting a glass down on the table after a drink.

From what I've read, it was intentional to "add to the insanity of the film," but we both thought it just looked absolutely retarded.
