I dunno, let's break it down.

Step 1: Do damage. Goal achieved? Y.
Step 2: Take hate inevitably. Goal achieved? Y.
Step 3: Give your mages 20% longer to heal you or have TE come back up. Goal achieved? Y.

It helps you do damage faster while giving you more survivability that seems like the raw definition of a "big deal."

Put it in perspective, compare S+TE vs /NIN and utsusemi. /SAM you get to do damage but you have in any 30 second window at least 50% less survivability than /NIN, yet /SAM is the better SJ for the job in many cases because it enhances the main traits and purposes of the job itself.

The bonuses of the aftermath coupled with the increased damage output can be likened to the bonuses of /NIN -> /SAM. I'd hardly call it a "side bonus."

This is totally ignoring the fact that TE is useless against magic so it's providing a 20% extra bonus to an area where you were previously left only 25% protected (shell V)

Aegis is hardly game-breaking. Its a nifty perk for excellent tanks, and makes sloppy tanks a tad less prone to eating dirt.

Not to be a douche, but your views on what items spark significant changes are extraordinarily flawed, especially considering Annihilator and Yoichinoyumi are nowhere to be found on your list.

I know that. It's just that the hardest things you will fight on warrior are relatively easy. I'm not saying you couldn't tank something else, but typically, that's when you start using paladin.

When you look at the events where war shine the most, there isn't many damage heavy fights where mp is an issue. It generally involve fighting relatively weak monsters that pose no threat, but need to be killed asap. It will help against the occasional fang rush, against discoid and LBC's double crit, or it might save your ass when healer are masturbating, but these death should normally be avoidable.

You can disagree with the list, I don't care. I never really played with rng or sam/rng who had relic.

My healers are frequently masturbating. Bravura is a 160mil safety net before anything else. I have a PDT set for a reason and it isn't to be a perfectionist, lol.

It's the best weapon for sure, no argument here. If I was still playing, and was carring enough to farm 160m, I would work toward one (after yagrush), but I still feel it's a luxury tool that would save one occasional salvage run from a wipe (would have been 2x lv25 marduk body anyway).

I hope you also have a regen set. Shit is dope.

It was too annoying to macro before spellcast, I didnt think about this one. I wish we could reach a true +9/+10 thought. Combined with hermes, you can pretty much solo anything with the basic +4, +10 would be nasty.

And every time you talk about optimization, I think about that salvage run

    Sath readies Mijin Gakure
LBC takes 700 points of damages
    (Sath) need raise
    Sath uses a revitalizer
    Sath readies Mijin Gakure.
LBC takes 200 points of damages

    (Sath) Mijin kill!
    Sath readies Mijin Gakure.
SSR boss takes 100 points of damage.

I've played with a couple Annihilators and don't see how it is amazing, I could only really see it shining if you were doing Odin/DI/Tyger/Khim with either poor tanks or small man.

Even excellent tanks can lose hate to pimped RNGs fairly easily, especially relic ones (not taking into account aftermath of course). Yoichi/Annihilator allow a RNG to gear themselves, choose subjobs and play in a style that would get them killed pretty damn quickly using other weapons, thus greatly increasing their damage output over time and making life easier for the tanks.

Most rangers dont spam the darn relic WS's is why they get killed. So relic does nothing if they dont use that lol. In fact not using the relic WS's screws you over and will lead to more deaths just because of the higher base dmg on the weps. The ranger should pull less hate total if they used the relic WS's.

A relic bow/gun allows a ranger to start all out dmg much faster then any other ranger. If you pulled out slug shot or sidewinder off the bat you would end up dead a relic bow or gun could pull off a relic WS much sooner without the hole death part. The flat hate however does not mean they wont hit the hate cap at some point so ya it just lets them fight longer with less odds of pulling hate.

i've had a few relic rngs and seen them in action, even spamming their respective ws's a few triple procs is all it takes to pull hate off even a great tank in a prolonged fight (see'ing a triple proc barrage on khim from annihilator is always funny lol)

About time someone actually came up with some concrete stats on this. Any info on MT previously seems to be fairly uncredible and scattered with rumors and speculation. The damage reduction is a lot higher than I expected.

Also, it's quite refreshing to see people talking about WAR tanking without getting laughed out of BG.

Anyone who used to scan KI back in the day (like late 2004) would remember a nasty WAR whose forum name was Nny (I think his ingame name was Johnny). He blew people's minds tanking Faf and WAR and probably my favorite was him tanking Nidhogg as WAR/MNK. It involved a heavy Aerial Armor rotation, but so did every PLD who tanked F/N back then.

I fell in love with WAR after that, but actually decided to do Apoc in the end. I think DRK's ability to build CE while keeping reasonably high VE on longer fights is pretty awesome.

Just checked BG and saw his thread. Best FFXI discovery in a very very long time, I'm not surprised a Swede dude is the dad of it!

The next best Gaxe offers 0% physical damage reduction and 0% magic damage reduction.

The next best equippable damage reduction is 20% physical, or 10% physical 10% magical.

Bravura is better than two I.R. lances, AND has some of the best raw DD potential in the game... that is kind of a big deal if abused properly, which I would hope Sath will do.
