CD Booklets/Artwork/Jewel Case question opinion...

I wasn't sure where to post this, and I went with Bent. Geek just because it's CD related.

I have all my CD's in Binders, as I don't have room for all the jewel cases. I still however have all the CD jewel cases/artowrk stored up in the closet on the top shelf. Why they're not particularly bothering anyone there, I could use the space for other stuff. I used to be a lot more anal about this kinda stuff, but now not so much. I realize it's only paper and plastic, but part of me has a hard time tossing this stuff. It's over 850 cases, so it's not exactly a small amount.

What do you guys do with your CD booklets/artwork? If there was some kind of storage thing you use, I might consider that, and just have that put aside. Thanks for any input! I'll probably just end up tossing everything though.

i boxed mine up a few years ago when i started buying far fewer physical albums than i used to, and stored the boxes away. if i ever needed to get to them, which i pretty much don't, it wouldn't be convenient; i probably wouldn't throw them out anytime soon though (that's just me though, i barely ever trade in dvds or games either). if you do want to clear out room you could always throw away the plastic cases & keep the booklets/inserts, it'd use up a lot less room.

These days I keep mine on shelves/racks, with the CDs in them of course. In the past I've had 'em in binders, but that was during college and the cases were just left at my parent's house.

IMO, it's worth keeping them unless you -really- don't have the space. Jewel cases aren't expensive per se, but buying 800+ of them would be ($200+, depending on type). If you ever decided that you wanted to put them on shelves, it'd be a lot more of a pain to revert back if you had ditched the cases.
Maybe consider splitting the difference, box 'em up and put them someplace more out of the way, like the attic or whatnot, if you have one.

At the very least I'd say to keep the inserts/books, as those aren't so easily replaced. Also, if you get rid of the cases, I'd consider donating them or offering 'em on Craigslist or something before throwing them out.
