Internet: Cable vs. Embarq

Right now I have my cable service through Comcast and my home phone plus 10 meg internet through Embarq. I'm looking into saving some money by moving everything over to comcast but my biggest concern is the cable internet. For my entire high speed internet life (over 10 years) I've always has DSL through the phone company and haven't had any problems so I'm hesitant in moving over to cable internet.

Are my fears of switching to cable internet justified? Is DSL not all that I think it is? Or is there not that big of a difference between the two?

Just to add, I live in SW Florida in the Ft. Myers area if anyone lives close and has some personal experience with either of the two.

Oh cable internet is fine.. Comcast is actually the problem here. Personally I wouldn't give them any business, and I know many people have issues with putting everything into a single company, but I'm guessing you're limited on who provides TV service without going to satellite.

If your DSL service is good and fast, stick with it. If you're gonna upgrade to anything, either go to a business-level DSL service or jump to FiOS.

Agree with above poster ~ Cable internet is usually great and fast but I and most of my friends/family hate Comcast internet speeds. DSL being the only other option and its great in our area even for boony land of SC~

Never had any cable problems with comcast in my area, other than every once in awhile it going out for a random amount of time, probably for maintenance. Other than that really no issues, also 250gig cap/month on the cable internet is a plus few people look at. As far as I'm aware a lot of other places have much lower download/upload caps. Fios is a nice choice, but not offered in my area at all.
