    Engineer Lahulahu Strategy

What is the success strategy for this particular boss?

It seems they want you to dodge the steam, which is no big deal until 50% when many, many steam valves start erupting at once.

We tried staying in the middle which worked very well until all 4 of the middle valves erupted at once and everyone ate 2+ steams.

It seems necessary to start eating at least 1 steam soon or later, whether at 50% or 25% of its HP.

Also, does a SM help? Sometimes the boss gets a buff that raises his attack and defense, but I didn't pay attention to it's interval or how he gets it.

Well before 50% is a cake fight.

    Here's a sure fire thing for >50%:

Tank stands on 1 of the 4 middle valves. He never moves and eats that steam when it erupts. He must be standing exactly on top of a valve, because that is the only place where you are guaranteed to ever take more than 1 steam. The rest of the part can move between the other 3 valves. Just watch whichever one erupts, and go stand on top of that one next (before 50%, it is guaranteed that the same one will not erupt twice in a row).

Before 50% he has 1 AoE (not including that steam) called pincer press. He'll use pincer attack on main hate then use pincer press. Not sure on the range but it should be like < 15m.

After 50% he starts doing an AoE called iron lag kick. He'll use iron fist on main hate and follow up with iron lag kick. I don't know the range on this (we were too busy wiping here). It also knocks you down sometimes which sets you up to get hit by steam next.

A strategy for after 50% that we talked about but didn't try because cleric had to go:

Tank stands on 1 of the 4 middle valves and eats at most 1 steam at all times. Rest of group stand on opposite side valve and eats at most 1 steam at all times. This should range all AoE's but you have to heal through the steam shots which maybe difficult.

I've been meaning to post a guide for Steel Rake, just haven't gotten around to writing it.

Basically you just tank him in the corner to the right of where you enter, you'll only get hit by one valve, which can be pretty easily group healed through by a single cleric. Just use Ranged dps (Sorc, Ranger, SM, Sin with bow ect) to kill him.

The buff he puts up can NOT be dispelled, its static that he gets from the valves.

Your Healers and DPS are out of range of All the Boss's AoE, and will only get hit with one valve. Once your DPS/Healers get higher level your sins can run in and DPS in between Valve triggers, you can Focused Evasion/Aethertwist through several of the AoEs.

Pretty easy fight once you know where to tank him, just healing intensive (bring MP pots lol).

I've found standing in between the 2 middle dots (the set of 4 dots to the right of the tank in that picture) is better. I have had twice now where standing in the corner has caused a graphical glitch for healers that put my character inside the wall, thus giving the line of sight error and me getting face rolled. Not sure what causes it, but its happened 2 times out of 3 fights now. Other then that, the post before mine sums everything up, pretty easy fight.

The 'legit' way to do it is kite the boss out of valves and have everyone move to avoid them. It's doable (we did it the first time), but harder. Then someone in my group grouped with people in Pooks' legion and we stole their strat for our other kills

Every ability he does will end in an AOE. If you're a melee on the fight, run if you see a cast bar (or if you're an Assassin, use abilities..). Iron Leg Punch (single target on tank) will always be followed by Iron Leg Kick (aoe around boss), Pincer Attack (single target on tank) will always be followed by Pincer Smash (aoe on boss). For tanks, if you Steel Wall the Pincer Attack you won't get picked up, which saves you a lot of not being able to do anything time. Steel Wall the Iron Leg Kick's knockdown, too. His other ability is AOE off the bat (I think it's Activate Steam Nozzle), and does a DOT. IIRC its also not physical so there's no point in hitting Steel Wall for it.

Valve explosions are easy as fuck to heal through as long as you're not getting hit by more than one. Save AT/FE for Leg Kick ect, so you won't get knocked down in range of overlapping valves.

I do, its just odd the explosions arnt labeled as anything. Same with the Shug Priest stun wave. AT and FE both don't stop it.

Eh, I just accept it as a fight mechanic (like how you can't dispel his buffs or VE's debuff)

    Quoting from the Complaint thread..

What the fuck is the deal with the Engineer in Steel Rake? Fighting him normal is just asking to get buttfucked, doing the side fight he glitches 1/2 the time and resets his fucking hp. Not to mention you can't melee him, and he will just randomly 1 shot someone at times.
What do you mean by randomly one shot people? I've never lost aggro on Engineer.

I've seen him turn to a SM and just pound them suddenly for no reason, was kind of interesting. Might have been due to him resetting after using a valve or something.

    Hm... I dunno.

After valves he usually just runs back to me. Strange. Definately not normal behavior.

Yeah, I figured a better strat would have been to do the same but in the middle, as you can stand on 1 valve as a tank and ranged can stand on 1 valve as well.

    Another issue we had other then resets seemed to be when he would run to a valve behind ranged, when he came back he was too close to ranged and would Aoe them with kicks and slams....and my group was far too stupid to move away from them >_<;

Lahu downed by my crew today using the corner trick, so much easier than doing it at 40.

Yeah, we did it first try in a 40-44 group by standing in the corner. Just a tank and spank boss.

Was very nice strat. Did this tonight with a 40-42 group. Took us a couple of tries because of the aforementioned wall/graphics glitch got me dead after the healer suddenly couldnt see to heal me. Moving out a bit from the wall prevents this though. Extremely long fight for a 40-42 group. Easily 15 minutes long. I felt like I was back tanking Fafnir in the way back original days 5 years ago.

Got the chest piece, but loot bugged out for some reason and we were not able to loot it or the green cloth shoes either.

Gotta love this game, this boss can go F itself. It's still retarded to do at like level 46+ with him resetting countless times and in the end dropping nothing at all whoopdidoo.

Still its all that more rewarding when he does.

Take the opposite, easy to kill and drops loot all the time and people are complaining wow is too easy and it is.

True ... I just wish it wasnt a 15minute+ fight. I seriously felt like I was tanking Fafnir back in the day. I do not demand easy encounters, hell I dont even demand short encounters. What I want from an encounter that is exceedingly long is a phase change, a twist, something. Having him swap between using Pincer Attack to iron Leg punch every 25% and then putting a shield buff on under 25% is not an interesting encounter mechanics that make this fight worthy of 10+ minutes. Even WoW and its sub 5 minute bosses give us a little variety in phases (even if everything is scripted).

Why couldn't Engineer do something interesting at low health? Hell even Kratar has a penchance for changing targets.

What the hell are you doing to cause this guy to reset? Just stand in the safer area and the fight goes as smoothly as possible. We're 6/6 on killing him with no issues.

Seen 2 blues and 8 greens so far, along with 3 advanced stigma quest drops from Lahulahu alone.

Steel Rake actually has pretty reasonable drop rates (especially if you bring a SM).

he resets if you move too far into the corner.

just have your tank stand out from the wall. if some ranged dps is pulling aggro and causing it to reset tell your tank to stop being horrible.
