    FFXI Server
    Asura

    What did you dislike?
It's getting a little quiet here on Asura. Not many shouts in whitegate, and after you have done almost everything, you get bored of the game. Other then a big handful of players, people have really no idea how to gear their jobs. I see WARs dual wielding, BLUs in MP+ gear, and purple PLDs. I know that's a syndrome of every other server, but it sucks here the most I think.

Why did you stay? Or, why did you leave (or quit)?
What's the point of moving to another server? I never saw the thrill of it, and just stayed here. I could always find a shell to suit my needs most of the time, and I do have a good amount of friends.

And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)?
I would most likely quit before I left.

I dig threads like this, they're always really interesting. And w00t, I got a shoutout, I guess that means I'm a big postwhore. Wait. That's not really a good thing.

What did you like... about your server?

First and foremost, I liked my friends. They're the reason I stayed where I was. I'd been offered places in a few of my forum friends' linkshells, but I never took them up on the offer because I loved where I was at.

I also hate to say it because it sounds bitchy, but I loved the endgame scene because of all the lulz. There was some seriously stupid shit that went on in a day of camping. I loved the drama, watching it unfold, listening to the QQing. FFXI was my daily dose of lulz. I may have been able to get that elsewhere, I don't know, but I loved what we had on Hades.

Also, Nubbs is my best good friend, and David is my favorite vagina.

    What did you dislike?

Mostly all of the noobs and gilbuyers. Seems we had more of the UAE gilbuyers than anyone else. Prices were horrible - seriously, fuck all of you assholes and your 18k currency.

Oh, and that Starr dude was fucking annoying. XD

Why did you stay? Or, why did you leave (or quit)?

Initially, I stayed for a lot of reasons. I stayed for my friends. I stayed for my linkshells, and later, I stayed because I thought I'd eventually have a shot at getting into Excellence (and I did). I stayed because I loved endgame. I stayed where I was because of all the great friends that I had. I considered server transferring a few times, but I couldn't bring myself to leave the people I enjoyed playing with.

When I finally decided to quit, I quit because a lot of my friends were just leaving the game. One of my closest friends quit which left the game really empty for me for a while, and a few of my friends started acting differently toward me, and I started to feel really lonely in the game. I also had to quit out of necessity - money got tighter because I stopped getting my GI Bill money. Now I'm working, but I don't feel like I'd enjoy the game anymore if I were to log in right now. Too much has changed.

And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)?

I always said I'd never quit, that I'd play the game until the servers shut down. I can't say what the exact moment was that convinced me that the game had run its course for me. It just stopped being fun when my friend left, and while I tried to continue after he quit, it just wasn't the same, and I wasn't really finding another good friend in his absence. I still miss it from time to time, but I miss the good things, not all of the bad things that started really adding up toward the end of my FFXI lifetime.

What did you like... about your server? (Hence, the format of the title.)

When I first started on Asura I liked the fact that I was able to play with my friend from Sweden. We mainly fished in the beginning. And considering the times I worked and the European time didn't match; me and him didn't get to do a lot of things together. I'm sure he would still be playing if it were different. He stopped after a month or so after I started. I really got into the game and continued to play it up until Spring of last year when I sold my character.

The community in the game is the best part. Asura was packed with people when I started and it continues to be packed to this day. Probably the 4th most active server behind Bahamut/Odin/Phoenix. The people in the game are why I stayed around. If it were for my friends from Asura: Shamaya, Kenjiri, Sige, Hobbester, Cassiopei, Akildas and many others. I definitely wouldn't have stayed around as long as I have. I do plan on restarting once that new Ultimate Collection comes out. This new update seems to be full of win.

    What did you dislike?

I honestly have no dislikes about Final Fantasy XI. Sure some things could use some work; but you're never bored. There's a million things to do in the game whenever you have downtime from friends or events. And there's no restrictions on what jobs you want to play. You can be any race and any job. Really, there isn't anything to dislike. I think the game is fine.

Why did you stay? Or, why did you leave (or quit)?

I quit because I needed to sell my character for some quick real life money. Financial situation came up that I couldn't ignore over a character in a game. Real life will always be more important to me.

And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)?

Well I have quit but like I said I'm coming back and hopefully I can get back to where I was before in a short amount of time. Summoner burns and East Ronfaure [S] camp should help me out quit alot Although I have to admit I do enjoy traditional parties as well. But I think I'll astral burn/sync abuse my way to 75 on Bard/other useful jobs first to be able to do endgame stuff.

    FFXI Server
    Kujata

What did you like... about your server?

Kujata was a very tight knit server in its prime, before server transfers and even until a year or so after or later. If anything went down on Kujata, no matter what LS you were in from the Top HNMLS to the smallest social LS's, you knew about it. Drama aside, it was very easy to get to know people and to progress through the game on this server, it had a very good community sense and I really liked that. Finding the correct people you needed with the correct jobs to do the task of the day was very simple, everyone had a rundown of everyone else and knew who was a retard and who wasn't.

We NA's didn't make much use of the /sh system back in the day. In fact when server transfers flooded in, many of them absolutely hated our server because to get things done on Kujata was, largely, to go through social outlets; talking to people personally, Friends, LSmates, friend of a friend etc. So for many of the earlier server transfer people getting things done was a nightmare. Most didn't adjust very well and ended up leaving again, unless they were lucky enough to get into one of the endgame shells. I loved my server before server transfers

    What did you dislike?

Drama. Every server has it's drama. However from my point of view, This server has got to be on the top of the Drama list. I'm talking fucking Shakespearean in magnitude drama. And its on both sides of the spectrum, NA and JP alike. Kujata was often referred to as being "Backwater" or behind the times, and there are very good reasons for this. Drama. Consider the NA Endgame population a full two years behind the JP population, after, NA release. I'll explain that part in a spoiler, since its quite a long tale to tell. Small drama example ahead.

    Example#1

About year after NA release, Some BCNM goes terribly wrong when an NA player (Dokaka) borrows some JP player's Emp. Pin and Leaping boots and doesn't return them. Being such a tight knit server, word gets out and all hell breaks loose. The JP community creates massive amounts of Galka mules with names involving the thief, Dokaka, and parks them outside of Lower Jeuno mog house. For a solid week or more they mules shout about what happend and call for GM's to get the items returned and ban the thief.

Example #2 (How Kujata wins the backwater title)
    Spoiler: show

This goes WAY back. Back to '03/04 fresh after NA release and around the time the NA population on the server finish their first jobs to 75 and begin to create endgame shells. The earliest NA HNM shells, EoE and TenkuKnights began to camp the Land kings but were quickly and swiftly told that "HNMs are for JPs" and basically that NA's shouldn't be camping. Of course that doesn't sit well with NA's and they continue their efforts. However the JP force on this server was much like everything else on Kujata, very tight and breaking through for claims and getting the experience to kill the HNMs was very difficult to do. But for after a while things settled down and the NA shells were able claim and kill.

But that wasn't to last very long, When a rift developed between the JP Endgame community forcing what was perhaps 1, to maybe 2 shells into three very efficient, very skilled killing machines, which most of the NA's at the time assumed were using "Tools" since it was rare for anyone else BUT them to claim. Shell leaders: Hildegarde(Jake), Hinty and Asukiy made an agreement to alternate king camps. This effectively backdoored the small amount of NA campers at the time because only the JP's ever claimed and at each camp one JP shell was guaranteed to be there.

The worst of the problem came 1 1/2 to two years later when the three JP shells had everything they COULD have and more. Their camping didn't cease or slow down as one would think. They were FLOORING abjurations. Tossing them. "To keep them rare". And to effectively keep them out of NA hands.

That in essance is why Kujata is so far behind. Hell, when server transfers started; mpking and cfh on HNM kings was still big. Stealing mobs amongst NA shells was like stealing cars, you'd swear none of them ever saw a drop before. They would make such a big deal about it, and it was largely because they hadn't seen drops before lol. It turns a hungry population savage and ravenous when there's no loot to go around on an already almost empty table.

Things have completely changed now, thank goodness, but there's still drama to be had here and there but its not widespread like it used to be. a good 90% of the original NA endgamers have either been banned, quit, or jumped servers. so that feeling of closeness and community is nearly dead. most of the people you see around town are people you've never seen before. you can pick out the server transfers left and right. Thats what I dislike about Kujata now

tl;dr: JP's tell pioneer NA's: HNM's are JPONRY. They lock down HNMs (land kings) for two years and drop/toss/floor Abjurations to "Keep them rare".

These are just a couple of examples, and they are Ye Olde as dirt. But it probably wouldn't take anyone interested too long to search even these forums for some juicy Kujatan drama lol...

Why did you stay? Or, why did you leave (or quit)?
I stayed because of my friends and my LS. My LS is the oldest English speaking endgame shell still running on the server! /proud ^-^. we have a good amount of original core members still playing, so I can't imagine leaving them.

And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)?
I would probably leave if most of our current core members quit or my LS disbanded. Sticking with my LS for six and a half years has in most respects been wonderful, but due to some events on our server, most camped HNMs have left a sour taste in our mouths. Because of this, we rarely do them anymore at all, and that's an aspect of the game I would like to make my peace with before I quit. I don't see how this is possible on Kujata anymore, at least efficiently. The HNMLS are all relatively new shells consisting of 90% server transfers and/or retards. Not interested. If anything I would like an Ultra lowman very efficient group (NiN would be a good example), and that's not happening here. So that is why I would leave, but I don't see this happening, I can't picture my LS not existing lol.

I wouldn't say I loved my server in particular, more so the people that I played with in my linkshell. I originally started on Fenrir and moved to Unicorn back in September 07. I really disliked Fenrir at the time because every active HNM shell was full of drama so I literally just opened up a list of every FFXI server on my screen, closed my eyes and pointed. I happened to land on Unicorn, looked into the LSs on the server and decided to head over.

I joined Pxtzle LS in October 07 and I have to say that I really was glad that I chose Unicorn after I got into that shell. I stayed with them until it eventually broke apart due to the LS leader quitting the game and we split into our own LSs. At the time the split happened though, I got really odd hours at my job and I could barely make events for several months and so I attempted to try out a shell on Quetzalcoatl that was based around doing events late at night. That whole thing was a gigantic failure and I really regret ever wasting my 50 bucks on transferring there and back. I really disliked the server itself because at the time I was trying to level RNG and every single party I got was a complete failure. If theres one thing I give to the general populace of Unicorn, its that PUGs really are not that bad a good majority of the time.

I eventually made my way back to Unicorn and joined back up with my friends from Pxtzle who reformed into Nightmoogles. I stayed with them until eventually everyone in the shell started quitting the game and I decided I was done with the game when the shell broke apart from the linkshell leader leaving. Really did not feel like looking for a new shell. I really do miss the game though and I never really got to use my RNG on anything of importance after pimping it out I want to go back after I've got 50 in Aion lol

What did you like... about your server?

My server is my home. I have friends and memories here. I really would never want to leave.

    What did you dislike?

The fact that the only way to get anything decent on our server is to join a shell that cheats and give up your life or Pay said shell an unrealistic amount of gil for an item that they might not even sell you.

Why did you stay? Or, why did you leave (or quit)?

I will stay here because of my friends. Gil and items are more valuable to me if it comes from working with my friends rather the buying items.

And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)?

I've thought about it. I did leave for a while but came back because I missed it. Leaving HNM scene on my return made the game so much better for me. Ase, if you leave Bismarck without so much as a good bye I'll find you and drag you home by the ear <3

What did you like about your server?

I loved Sirens native endgame community. My shell has been going for 3 and a half years now started in Feb 2006, and our biggest rival shell started not too long after us. Both of these shells are still going today in some shape or form, always as the top two. Whilst we used to constantly fight with each other to "take the top spot" so to speak, but this all stopped the second server transfers got introduced, ever since then its a case of team up to warn off the transfer shell. 95% of the time now our shells are complete gentlemen with each other, apologising swiftly if a member gets out of line against the other.

    What did you dislike?

As SassiAsura said, migrants. Our top two shells have had linkshells of all sorts come on over to Siren and none have lasted past the 9month'ish mark, only to transfer again to another server. Every time this has happened they've came, ignored any truce that the current endgame community had and proceeded to steal on yellow, mpk without cause, etc. It honestly seems from the batch we had come over, we seemed to draw the worst groups.

Would you ever leave (or quit)?

I stay for my shell, not my server. As per such I'll stay on Siren as long as my shell stays on Siren. We have never had plans to move nor do I suspect we ever will, which means I dont intend to quit or leave my server. I dont think my server had anything special over other servers though, from what I can see you can make close, decent, and good friends on any server. I dont imagine theres any server which is branded as the ultimate shit hole or vice versa, as it all comes down to preference. Silenka is a Siren native with a very different opinion to mine after all. I'm sure there are people with a wide range of opinions on every server.

I like a lot of the responses so far, and many of you make me a bit envious, jealous in fact. Most of you to this day have had an endgame Linkshell you stayed with for 2 or 3 years, and a few it looks like for as long as 4 years.

I haven't had an endgame Linkshell last longer than one year. And, that's something I wish I had on Bismarck-- a steady, stable LS.

For many of you, most of your friends stayed, where for me most left the server. I would have liked it to have friends that stuck with me from time to time to do stuff in this game.

Consider yourselves lucky for getting this far and having people you can call friends and a Linkshell in this game that have stuck with you from beginning to end.

Midgardsormr server is the cool place to hang out. You can find most of the cool people there. In Midgardsormr server you can just chill and do whatever and totally relax. "Take it easy" is the Midgardsormr server motto, for example, that's how laid back it is there. Show up if you want to have a good time. Another good reason to show up is if you want to hang out with friends.

So I ask: What did you like... about your server? (Hence, the format of the title.) I like that there are always things to do. Someone is always shouting for Nyzul, Dynamis, ZNM, etc.

What did you dislike? The HNM ls that has Nasa and maybe 20 bots. (no joke)

Why did you stay? Cause I'm in my dream Linkshell!

And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)? I probably quit if my game interfered MAJORLY with my job. Or, if I switch to XIV!

Other then Remora is a very nice server.

A lot of noobs, flamers, and pure out idiots though!

Great idea for a thread. I like reading through threads like this, its fun to see other's experiences. Anyways, what I think of my server... hmmm,

~So I ask: What did you like... about your server? (Hence, the format of the title.)
There's actually a lot of things that I like about my server. The people here are friendly, helpful, and for the most part laid back. We're not the most populated server so no waiting for a camp to open most times, but we really don't seem to be hurting anymore than usual either lately. My friends are what I like most about the server. And my experiences here; good, bad, lulzy, whatev. Can't really think of much else, but I can't think of a better server, either. :3

    ~What did you dislike?
Can't think of anything really, atm. Except for the general complaints that any server would have, like difficulty getting help with certain missions/quests, people who don't care about their jobs, bad parties, length of lfp/lfm, some endgame drama here and there, whatnot. It's really been a pretty good home for me.

~Why did you stay? Or, why did you leave (or quit)?
Well, I started out on Unicorn, got my first 75 on Unicorn, first endgame linkshell (dynamis, go figure) on Unicorn, and all the rest. I know the people on this server, I'm at least moderately familiar with the social and endgame environments on my server and I don't think I'd be capable of leaving the friends and familiarities I've known for the last two and a half-ish years for some other strange server, and having to start over making new friends, etc. At this point in the game, I don't think there's really any use going through the trouble if I even wanted to. Never really thought about it, even so.

~And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)?
I'll honestly probably end up riding this one out, but I won't say that for sure. I think I'm like anyone else here, if my friends leave I'm out. I tend to make friends relatively easy though and as this was my first mmo, I have a sort of sentimental attachment to it. I guess that's just something that I'd just have to see how it goes.

What did you like about your server?

I've always been pretty proud of Phoenix as a server because it never really had too much hostility between linkshells until a few years ago (last year? I don't mean to namedrop but pretty much right before Mercury transferred things started getting stupid, and when they came, just escalated). I like that I've generally been able to avoid any instances where I've been faced with complete douchebaggery, so I think that speaks a lot for the population.

    What did you dislike?

Nothing really about the server, I've always thought it progressed fairly well as a whole in all facets of the game. I guess if there was one thing I really disliked about the server, it was that I didn't make enough of an effort to make truly good friends. It's my fault, but I feel like a stranger in my linkshell anymore due to being spotty at best in attendance. I feel like everyone who should be a friend is just an acquaintance save a few people who I would make an effort to remain in contact with outside of the game if I ever really decide to fully quit.

    Why did you stay?

No real interest in joining another server. I've been in the same linkshell now since 2005, and even if I feel like a stranger now, joining the linkshell has always been a high point in my game life and I simply could not turn my back on them.

    Would you ever leave?

It'd take a lot for me to leave Phoenix, like $25.

The people in general. There's a lot of good people on Midgard, but they're generally over shadowed by the louder mouthed assholes that are the minority.

    What did you dislike?
The blind arrogance of some people who think they're kings of end game just because they've hit 75 and fought Simurgh a few times. People who talk smack but then can't back it up, or don't have a clue how to play the damn game wind me up.

Why did you stay? Or, why did you leave (or quit)?
Stayed for the people. I've been in and leading a good LS for 4.5yrs, we've done and we still do everything people want to do within it, it's a good atmosphere, always something to do, and it's nice to see my friends getting stuff done they want to.

And, if you stayed, would you ever leave (or quit)?
I'll probably quit as my kid grows up a bit and isn't just an eating and crapping machine, but I expect FFXIV will have taken most of the reasons (people) I play for away by then anyway.
