Firefox (3.5.4) stuttering every 10 or so seconds.

Not much more to it than that. Every 10~ seconds Firefox will hang for a second. It's not enough to cause trouble, but it's VERY annoying when watching any video, or typing, or doing... anything. =( This started probably a week ago, but to my knowledge I didn't install any new add-ons then. I installed Cooliris a couple weeks before that and all was fine.

EDIT: Just realized 3.5.4 is out, I'll update and see if this fixes it.

If it's still doing it, do the usual by turning off all extensions, and seeing if it's still a problem. If not, then process of elimination by turning them back on one at a time + restarting browser.

Similar to turning off all extensions, you can try creating a new test profile out by launching Firefox from the command line with the -p flag to bring up the Profile thingy. You can test without having to touch your normal profile at all. If it persists with a brand new profile that has no extra extensions, add-ons or themes, then you'll at least know where you stand as far as trouble-shooting.

Well, after a few days of being on 3.5.4, the problem is still occurring.

Perhaps this could be of help to you (I can't post url's so i'll just copy the article):

"Have you noticed, that sometimes Flash-based videos stutter when you view them in Firefox, but work fine in other browsers like Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari? This appears to be a problem with Firefox's session restore feature that affects both Windows and Mac versions. So what's the solution? Well, you can either turn off the session restore feature altogether or simply lengthen the period of time between snapshots. To do this, type about:config into Firefox's address bar, then in filter box enter browser.sessionstore.interval. The default value is 10000 (10 seconds), which is the number of milliseconds between snapshots. Setting the number to 120000 lengthens the period to two minutes, a more reasonable but still useful period. Of course, you can set it to whatever you want, as long as you keep in mind that you're dealing with milliseconds."

I was having this problem. Are you running skype 4.1? It has some process called skypenames.exe that opens and closes every 30 seconds or so... took me days to find out what it was but you can see it pretty clearly in task manager opening and closing. I'm not sure what it does but I think it is supposed to link phone numbers to skype in your browser. After I uninstalled the "Skype web features" or whatever it went away.

    Nope, no Skype here.

Used GentaiShinigami's fix for now, lets see if it works.

Here's a specific breakdown of what to do to create a new blank profile: Managing profiles

I'll try to explain it for the most part to make it easier to digest, though. Firstly while Firefox is closed, you need to open up the Profile Manager. Here's how:
    1. Exit Firefox. To close Firefox, at the top of the Firefox window, select the File menu, and then select Exit.
    2. Select the START menu in the Windows Taskbar. Then, select Run.
    3. In the Run dialog, enter the following: firefox.exe -ProfileManager

    4. Click OK.
    Which simply looks like this:

I'm just using "-p" instead of "-profilemanager" but they serve the same purpose.

From here you just need to use "Create Profile" to make a brand new blank profile that's completely set to all defaults; no extensions, about:config changes or extra themes and add-ons. Your original profile is still preserved so you don't have to go through checking each individual extension or setting to see if something got screwed up along the way (yet).

If the blank profile works as intended but your old one does not then you at least know your problem is likely a specific extension, setting or about:config change. If neither profile works for you then you're likely looking at either a specific process like something similar to the Skype thing mentioned or a default setting in Firefox that just isn't working for you. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. lol

Edit: after lots of googling it seems like the fix posted in regards to the SessionRestore timer is the most likely cause since it seems to line-up really specifically with what you're talking about Epical.
