Ok so what if it is an event where it is thrown? Well if we throw it, there would be an animation in the file tied to different races in the "schedule" portion. Unfortunatly, there isn't. Based on the way that animation files are within Altanaviewer, it is very easy to see that these snowball .DATs are tied to CS's.
Plenty of animation .DAT's are stored by themselves to be used in CS's. The first battle at Fort K in the Windurst Storyline shows the Mithra units firing a barrage of arrows towards the advancing Yagudo troops. The animation for those arrows are in the .dats and are viewable in Altanaviewer.
As of right now, it points to CS animations. If SE adds animations in one of the two updates this month that supports the idea for a snowball throwing event, then I'll change my mind, but as it stands right now, it points to animations for CS's.
