    Remanufactured Toner?

I have a laser printer for my assignments and I have a quick question. How smart is it to use a remanufactured/refurbished cartridge? I know that toners only have a life of so many pages before they have to be discarded, but lately I've been seeing a lot of computer stores here carry the remanufactured units.

I know when I sold ink cartridges back in the day, I was told refilling your own cartridges was a stupid thing to do. Has much changed?

We use them at work.. they seem just fine. Toner is toner.

can have problems w/ them leaking from time to time, but you will save so much money in the long run. i always buy refurbs rather than OEM.

I too wonder about printer-related shit because printers hate me and ink is expensive We use toner cartridges and fly through them at work with all the paper that is handed out. Might be able to save my boss some money depending on if I remember to check this thread x)

Toner cartridges can leak? Ecch.. is it really worth a $15 savings to get a remanufactured one? Especially given that I'll be printing a shitload of lab reports?

Generally you can get the same output on a refurbish toner compared to a new one. You will save a lot of money in the process as well.

Toners do "leak" sometimes, but it's usually caused by rocking while shipping since some refurbish toners don't have a plastic lock in strap.

In the end: Yes, millions of people do it, and it's how HP survives.

Printer companies try to get you to buy the new ink and toner because it's where their profits are. If you buy from a remanufacturer or refill them yourself, you are avoiding their profit lines, and they don't want that, so they'll say it will void your warranty and warn you against it. HP remanufactures their toner and ink if you send them back to HP, and many other companies can do the same process.

idk what the savings are on desktop printers or how prone they are to having problems tbh. my experience is more with enterprise level printers (the shiny ones with envelope feeders, drawer stacks, etc. the ones actually WORTH spending the time to put thru a PM kit!) so on those refurb toner bottles we save far more than 15 dollars. i can't really speak for the economy of your bottles, but if i had to bet, i'd go w/ everyone here. buy the refurb. unless you're servicing a fleet of printers like i do, you won't see problems with it worth noting.
