the show is very different than the books. it has a lot of flaws, but it still enjoyable and it still kicks you in the balls repeatedly. i would not have watched it on my own, the previews looked stupid. my daughter had it on and i caught some of the dialogue, got my attention. then a dude got his eyes pulled out, so, it kept my attention.

Yeah, I liked the series overall, though I think I liked Magician King the best of the three.

Just realized that each of the years that a Kingkiller book came out the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

    Motherfucking Kingkillers.

I normally listen to an audiobook while I do cardio (1hour) or driving(30mins-1hr) and read before bed(30mins-1hr). The voice actor for the wheel of time is just not doing it for me which would be a deal breaker.

Almost done with Asimov's Foundation series and I'm liking it quite a bit. Any more Asimov stuff I should pick up?

    I, Robot short story

The Robot series is also pretty solid. Starts with The Caves of Steel.

Arthur C Clarke is the same era and innovation of sci-fi if you haven´t already.

A little gem of old sci-fi is Frederick Pohl´s Gateway (if you can find it!)

well, before I get to a bookstore and pick those up some time in the next couple weeks, I have to decide what I want to read next.

    the 3 Gentlemen Bastard books,
    the 3 Broken Empire books,
    the 3 Night Angel books,
the 2 latest Mistborn and Arcanum books,
the 2 Dreamblood books (by N.K. Jemisin)
    or start Lightbringer series.

I also have Anubis Gates and Dirty Streets of Heaven which I have to try but those will wait for the moment. Also Aeornauts Windlass and a couple more warhammer 40k novels.

So many God damn books in my backlog but every time I go to a book store I come out with more.

Good suggestions by others so far on this (though I'm having a hard time seeing the similarity to Banks, who is also awesome, but, uh, different). The Robot series actually ends up tying into Foundation, not that Asimov intended it to until he wrote the last few bridging books much later in life. I'd argue for his short story collections in general- there are tons, with a lot of story overlap. Picking some random "best of" type title would probably be pretty safe. There's a six-skinny-book set called The Asimov Chronicles that was published pretty late in the game that has almost all of it, and there's probably an omnibus by now. Find something with "The Last Question" in it, ideally.

I'm also a fan of his Black Widowers mystery series, though obviously that's even less similar to Foundation than Banks' stuff is. It's a bunch of sort of snooty classic dinner-party-set "can you solve this mystery from the information provided before the characters figure it out" type short stories, frequently with a humorous and/or science-related bent. Arthur C. Clarke's "Tales From the White Hart" is in this category too, but funnier.

I vote Lightbringer -> Dreamblood -> Broken Empire -> Others.

I really didn't care for the first Gentleman Bastard book. I wish I could elaborate, but it was mostly for story reasons and I don't want to spoil. I know a lot of people prefer to make up their own minds.

Oh, damn it, the Foundation Series isn't the end of the narrative. Gotta look out for the sequel book now. But not the prequels. Not really interested in those.

For now, I'll start Black Prism tomorrow.
