Is Soldiers Son even in the Farseer universe? I've avoided it because all I hear are bad things.

Finished off the Cosmere with Arcanum Unbounded. If you've finished the current Cosmere stuff it's pretty good
helps with understanding some of the high level plots. I don't know if I want to skip genre's for a bit. I have 3 huge Cisco technical books I need to allocate additional time to. Boooo.

    Any recommendations?

Eh, I've read all of the Robin Hobb Fitz/Fool-centric books thus far and have been lukewarm since the younger Fitz phase earlier on (boy to pseudo-adult). The beginning wove a wonderful tale of personal growth in adverse conditions with a rather unique apprenticeship; latter portions just lack that magic. Also gets somewhat odd with certain character dynamics and the overall story takes some unexpected turns / slows down imo.

Just finished Sleeping Giants, first book of Themis Files. It was pretty good. Similar style to World War Z.

There's only 2 books in the series. You'll be out about 20 bucks. The real damage comes from waiting for Rothfuss to finish anger management.

Rothfuss rather play vidya games than finish book 3. He's also busy D&Ding at PAX events. I stopped paying attention to when it will come out. It will show up on Amazon one of these days... maybe in a year or 3. Heck I expect Winds of Winter to come out before book 3.

You're thinking of the Wheel of Time series. KKC is 2 (currently) books. The writer is public about the fact that he suffers from anger and anxiety issues and has been in therapy for a few years. Lots of people have speculated (wrongly) that it's slowing down his writing process and that we'll never see the third book.

ups to you nerds for the Horus Heresy rec a few pages back, i obliterated the first 4 novels p quick and as far as space pulp goes they are the spaciest and the pulpiest. 37 more books is a p big commitment tho (especially with my man Loken MIA), is the entire series worth going through or should one pick and choose the ones that get acclaim and scorn them that don't ?

Finished Themis Files. Was pretty interesting. The storytelling style gets a bit garbled up in the second book but it carries well enough.

Also finished Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Pretty good deep space dystopian sci-fi. It has some very odd timing moment where you'll need to be paying close attention. Otherwise, it's solid if very untraditional worldbuilding.

Taking some time off from scifi to reread Master and Commander now.

    Hellow bg intellectuals~

I'm looking for some scifi suggestions(after much disappointment jumping into random stuff blindly) and was hoping someone would have a few names to drop. I prefer science fiction over science fantasy, but I'm willing to google anything without prejudice.

There's tons of rec's in this thread.

John Scalzi has a lot of great work.
The Expanse series is pretty amazing (It's now a show on Syfy as well)

I can give more specifics but it's a pretty broad genre.

off Zet's list i'd second The Foundation Trilogy, 2001, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. also throw in Solaris and the Hyperion Cantos as some of the best spacey sci-fi. for more grounded work The Handmaid's Tale (also now a television series), Flowers for Algernon, Frankenstein, and Farenheit 451 all deserve their reputations as classics.

No problem man, glad you liked them. The series is long but there is some good payoff.

Books to not bother with would be Know No Fear (one of the crappies books of any genre I've ever read), Flight of the Eisenstein (I don't remember much about this book to be honest, but everyone else hates it), Nemesis (just kind of bad, but has some plot shit in it that may or may not be super important later, we dunno yet), Angel Exterminatus (did not like). Santuary Lost is also effing terribad.

There are also too goddamn many audo books for me personally (don't like them, I read really fast and it feels like the story is being dribbled out if hearing it read). Personal preference there, some folks love them.

Also too many special (but not special ) editions and novellas to track.

Great books in the series: know no fear, legion, first heretic, thousand sons + Prospero burns, preatorian of dorne, master of mankind, savage weapons, unremembered empire, betrayer.

That's off the top of my head. Legion is kind of devisive, folks love it or hate it. If you know anything about the Alpha Legion you'll understand why.

    Hope that helps!

Lokken, the self-admitted Luna Bitch? Or Lorgar, the guy that put the Ho(ly Shit) in Horus Heresy?

Books tend to kinda iffy, mostly depending on the author.
