    Just finished Ready Player One, would recommend it to anyone on this forum, because we are all, most likely, part of the target demographic. A few minor gripes with it, but nothing big enough to take away from the overall enjoyment. Would make a decent movie too, I think.

    Not sure what to read next, I have a Kindle full of books but no strong desire pulling me in any specific direction, gonna browse the thread for some ideas.

    So I got a kindle a 5 weeks ago and in those 5 weeks I have read 13 books.
    Zombie guide/WWZ, Abe Lincoln Vamp hunter, American Gods, 1984, Ender's Game, and Harry Potter series. I liked all the books though I found myself bored a lot in 1984 with all the dry info it gives.
    So now I'm looking for another long series of books to read. I've been thinking about;

    R.A. Salvatore books ; though I'm not too sure where to start
    The Dark Tower;
    Lord of the Rings ; But I found myself bored to death even watching the 1st movie so I can't imagine the book being any less boring.

    other than that I haven't really looked up any other series of books aside from Eragon(which from it's wiki description sounds horrible) and looking for any suggestions.
    Spoiler: show
    which I'm sure will include people telling me to give LotR a chance

    The books are actually much more interesting. A movie about people walking will never be that good without knowing the backstory.

    Shit yeah, I love this guy. Drizzt is my man. You should start by reading the Icewind Dale trilogy and then reading the prequels and sequels. I own about half the books (broke-ass) but am going to reread them soon XD

    A Song of Ice and Fire for sure, but my problem is now I can't find anything that comes close to comparing. :/

    Try The Prince of Nothing series by R. Scott Bakker, and Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steve Erikson.
    Might also consider The Black Company series by Glen Cook

    For those who enjoyed A Song of Ice and Fire, here are some of the books I've recently enjoyed enough to recommend to others:

    • The Kinshield Saga, K.C. May
    • The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone series, Greg Keyes
    • The Tormay Trilogy, Christopher Bunn
    • The Farseer Trilogy, Robin Hobb
    • The Riyria Revelations series, Michael J. Sullivan

    I can cosign on these two Plus the last book in the Riyria Revelations just came out.
    Neither of these series are as hardcore/detailed as ASOFAI but they are interesting none the less.

    Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan
    Mithgar Series by Dennis L. Mckiernan
    Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind
    Symphony of the Ages series by Elizabeth Hayden
    Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony (THE MASTER OF BAD PUNS)

    Expanding from that if your into both Sci/fi and fantasy:

    Fucking anything by Anne McCaffrey (RIP )
    Harringtonverse by David Weber

    Also, if you like R.A. Salvatore, pick up the Starlight & Shadows trilogy by Elaine Cunningham. (Seriously, fuck Drizzt, Liriel is BOSS)

    Also Also, personal thing here: Stay the fuck away from the Wayfarer Redemption Series by Sara Douglas. She makes you feel so damn bad it will drive you to suicide. I felt so fucking down after reading that series and it wasn't even all that good. Just finished it cause I get a nervous tic if I start a series but don't finish.

    BUT SERIOUSLY, STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

    I have decided to start with Game of Thrones! a 10th of the way through so far.

    unrelated question: The rest of the Ender's Game books; Are they any good? The titles of the books just make it sound like the rest of the series was an afterthought and he had to shove all those books into the timeline he left vague in the original.

    That reminds me, a new entry with Bean was just released on the 17th called Shadows in Flight which I think is the next to last in the series

    Technically two more. There's one coming in July called Earth Unaware that will be about the first Formic War, and then Shadows Alive at some future date which will be the final one and tie together the two series.

    The Bean books are decent. The rest of them are pretty fucking terrible and have a very preachy undertone.
