Yeah Robert Jordan died when he was 58. David Wingrove... turns 58 this year >.>

    DAMN IT.

I just started book one (of the rewritten/reissued series): Son of Heaven

Too early to tell how it is, as this is a prequel (first of two) and so far hasn't lined up with anything that I know from the original 8 book series.

If you're looking for something that is easy to read and provide quick entertainment, it might not be the best pick. There is barely any action, and the few characters aren't very likeable. The concept and ideas however are still interesting if you're willing to go through it

anna karenina. About two-hundred or so pages into the book, really enjoying it. Could probably finish in another day if I commit.

Finished A Game of Thrones and now it's time for A Clash of Kings.
Are all 5 books a single concurrent story or do any of them ever break apart and tell some other story that's not directly related to the others?

You can consider it all one world and timeline that jumps around for contextual or historical flashbacks, but yeah, each book essentially picks up where the last left off, save cases where you're still dealing with the same events and people, just from different perspectives or parts of the world altogether.

Books 4 and 5 happen at the same time in different parts of the world. About half way in book 5 it continues on with the story.

As others have said, it's one concurrent story basically.

That said, there are stories written by Martin that are not part of A Song of Ice and Fire directly. Namely, the Dunk and Egg stories, which take place years before A Song of Ice and Fire, and honestly... I find to be superior. Just do a google search for Dunk and Egg or wiki it. I think there's 3 stories of them now? Dunk and Egg are awesome! :3

I'd totally forgotten about those, remembered seeing them when trying to find the books at the library.

1/4 of the way through Storm and all I can say is
    Spoiler: show
they need to change the series name from a song of ice and fire to A Song of Everyone Getting Fucked Over. especially Arya. she's been captured like 5 times and everytime she escapes she just gets captured again by someone else.

just finished the first book of Wheel of Time
    Spoiler: show
It seemed like the ending was really rushed compared to the rest of the book. Im assuming since theres like 13 more novels the Dark One isnt actually dead. Was pretty enjoyable read, took me like 5 days to get through

Of the early books, the Shadow Rising is my favorite by far. Book three isn't too bad either about halfway through when Mat starts being...well Mat.

Figured I'd contribute a less mainstream suggestion for people:
"The Deed of Paksenarrion" by Elizabeth Moon.
It's a trilogy, the first and third books being very good in my opinion, the middle book leaving a bit to be desired. Overall, well worth the read though.

    A Storm of Swords;
    Spoiler: show
Just got to chapter 53 (right after the Frey "wedding")
What the fuuuuuuuuuuuck. God damn that's some crazy shit. Go from boring wedding with some douchebags to Robb, Catelyn and Arya dead in like 10 pages. This author doesn't give a fuck who any character is. Literally trying to put all my thoughts to words but I can't...
