What the fuuuuuuuuuuuck. God damn that's some crazy shit. Go from boring wedding with some douchebags to Robb, Catelyn and Arya dead in like 10 pages. This author doesn't give a fuck who any character is. Literally trying to put all my thoughts to words but I can't...

and now onto A Feast For Crows!
    asos spoiler
    Spoiler: show
I was thinking Stannis was going to take Jon Snow for his kings blood sacrifice for the stone dragon thing. and the zombie catelyn thing was pretty crazy. it lessens the impact of the Red Wedding though. well, the trick the author played to make you think she died did that first.

I always dislike the start of a new book, especially when a chapter is a new character. always takes so long for me to grasp what's going on.

Ok, back in The Dark Tower series, book 2. Just love this series to pieces. I don't like horror stuff at all so most of King's stuff isn't for me, but this series is brilliant!

Almost done with A Feast For Crows.
It seems like it's the shortest book so far, but it's taking me the longest to get through because I never really felt like reading through the first half of the book. up until about 60% of the way through the book, it felt like boring filler. I know it was all necessary info which leads up to stuff that is finally starting to happen in the latter half of the book, but that still didn't help much at the time.

Just realized that the norm seems to be a new book every 5 years and the last book came out in 2011

You should read the GoT book thread.

While he's been averaging 5 years he's said recently that unless something interferes he'll have the upcoming book out in a 2-3y timeframe. The first 3 books came out in a much faster fashion, that's the timeline he's been aiming for.

Don't hold me to that, as he's also said repeatedly that he won't work exclusively on ASOIAF. He has 2-3 sagas in progress and writes shorts and novellas as well.

Feast for Crows didn't originally exist - it was the first half of A Dance with Dragons that they finally chopped off and released. That's why it literally reads like the first half of a book - it's missing a ton of view points you don't get to see until book 5.

This caused a huge delay for the actual Dance with Dragons book since he hit a huge plot hole he had to figure out how to resolve.

I was hoping you wouldn't notice any of the posts about Feast for Crows before reading since seeing everyone say it was their least favorite book made it feel like an eternity while reading. There's a little joke in Feast where he promises Dance in like a year lol.

I haven't read up on any single thing about any of the Song books until after I've read them. Man0warr's post didn't tell me anything I didn't already know since I'm already 70% through the book and it only started not being boring a few chapter ago.
    Spoiler: show
I think it's all the Greyjoy and ironmen stuff that is making it the most boring for me. The Greyjoy stuff has been background characters and second hand info for the first 3 books and now in the 4th there is all of a sudden 4-5 characters dealing with Greyjoys and Dragonstone and the such. And it's hard to feel any excitement or anything with Brienne because we know where both Arya and Sansa are so a search for them is not as great as it could be if there was some uncertainty.
No Stannis and his crazy red devil bitch, no Jon Snow and the Wall, those were some big driving elements previously and now they arent even barely mentioned. No word on Bran yet either though he's apparently doing some crazy shit with some crazier stuff but theres not even been a word on that yet either.

Hopefully I'll finish the book tomorrow. Depends on how little work there is to do for me at work tonight.

True enough! Good thing it is a genre I quite like.

    Just started this myself:

From one of the most acclaimed and profound writers in the world of comics comes a thrilling and provocative exploration of humankind’s great modern myth: the superhero

The first superhero comic ever published, Action Comics no. 1 in 1938, introduced the world to something both unprecedented and timeless: Superman, a caped god for the modern age. In a matter of years, the skies of the imaginary world were filled with strange mutants, aliens, and vigilantes: Batman, Wonder Woman, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and the X-Men—the list of names as familiar as our own. In less than a century, they’ve gone from not existing at all to being everywhere we look: on our movie and television screens, in our videogames and dreams. But what are they trying to tell us?

For Grant Morrison, arguably the greatest of contemporary chroniclers of the “superworld,” these heroes are powerful archetypes whose ongoing, decades-spanning story arcs reflect and predict the course of human existence: Through them we tell the story of ourselves, our troubled history, and our starry aspirations. In this exhilarating work of a lifetime, Morrison draws on art, science, mythology, and his own astonishing journeys through this shadow universe to provide the first true history of the superhero—why they matter, why they will always be with us, and what they tell us about who we are . . . and what we may yet become.
Also started Tina Fey's Bossypants and Mindy Kaling's book as well.

finished Feast, read his note at the end. Makes more sense knowing that they are parallel books at least for a time.
How long do the books run parallel and when do they pick up where Feast left off at the end?

You'll notice once you get to the part of the book where it leaves off.

    /sarcasm

It's actually fairly long, only the last 2/5's goes further time-wise iirc. It hops around a lot towards the end.

    Read it.

    Then rage.

I just started reading "World War Z" and it's amazing. Very, very good. I like that it's set post-zombie apocalypse rather then during zombie apocalypse.
