I could never warm up to Peeta. Then the whole "you two are a couple!" angle came into play. Out of all the ways there are to have romance in a book (which I'm a sucker for at times) this seemed more like PLOT DEVICE than anything else to me. I'd get back into the book and oh yeah, don't forget PLOT DEVICE! .... Ehhhhh... Maybe it's because of Peeta but this part of the book was horrible imo. I loved how the section with Rue worked out and felt a lot more emotional draw from that than I did the secret pining from Peeta and Kat's... I dunno... confusion? I can't even call it that, it's like an afterthought. I was wondering how he'd die then when the new rule was announced I simply sighed and shook my head. Then the book goes and ends on this same PLOT DEVICE. Perhaps this is a hit with the books younger target audience.
Sigh, oh well. I think I'll pass on the other two and move into new titles.
Yeah, do yourself a favor and skip the rest. It just gets FAR worse.

Finished off This Book is Full of Spiders. Awesome book. If you're a fan of horror/comedy you should pick up John Dies at the End and then This Book is Full of Spiders.

Picked up Hank Haney's book on Tiger Woods today called The Big Miss.

Recently downloaded an omnibus of every single Star Wars universe book ever written. Anyone have any recommendations within that range?

Still reading OPEN by Andre Agassi. He's kind of a whiny little bitch. I rescind my previous approval. I'm just waiting to be done. ~170 pages left.

    Spoiler: show
    Andre Agassi REALLY hates tennis.

Currently re-reading the World War series by Harry Turtledove. He does a lot of alternative history stuff. This series starts during WW2. America has entered the war, Auschwitz has just been opened, when suddenly ALIENS. Sounds a bit silly, but it's actually very well done. The aliens have technology comparable to modern tech (computers, night-vision goggles, nukes, etc) and came expecting a war against sword-wielding barbarians. They got barbarians with tanks. Not very good tanks, though. Imagine what an M1 Abrams would do to a bunch of Shermans. Or an F-22 Raptor vs some B-17s. The aliens are also not very good at war (no experience) and are even worse at adapting rapidly. So while they start out with a huge advantage, the playing field quickly becomes more level as Humanity adapts.

Another series of his that I've read (and plan on re-reading soon) is based around the same era, but set in a world in which the South won the Civil War and is therefore its own, legitimate, independent nation.

I loved this series as a teen. I need to reread it. All the lizards getting sexed up on ginger or whatever it was.

lol yeah, ginger. I haven't gotten to the part where it's widespread, but I remember one scene from the first time I read it that really stuck with me.
    Spoiler: show
A male Lizard tricks a female into eating Ginger, sending her into instant Heat. He then has his way with her. She's all traumatized later, and the incident gets brought up in conversation with a human. The Lizards don't know what to even call such a crime, and the guy's just like "Oh, yeah, that's rape. It happens sometimes."

Oh god I remember that. I remember extrapolating in my head what was going to happen.
    Spoiler: show
Which ended up coming true, prostitution and sex trafficking among the lizards.

Turtledove is awesome, his Darkness series was a lot of fun to read, WWII reimagined as a fantasy story. Guns of the South was a good read too. I've never actually read the World War series, might have to check it out. Been on a Michael Chrichton kick lately, Jurassic Park, Sphere, Prey, Eaters of the Dead, Andromeda Strain all in a row.

I just finished up the third Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy book. I'm not sure if I am going to keep reading them. Each book is stranger than the last. Also the name this author gives to planets and species is a pain in the ass to read.

These Sword of Truth books fucking blow. I am one of those people that finishes everything that I start pretty much, but I may just nix this and reread the last 2-3 WoT books in anticipation of A Memory of Light. With the work schedule, there's no chance I can redo the whole series by Jan.
