I'm not trolling and it's seriously bothering me not knowing why people that like it.... like it. I tried reading some reviews at goodreads, but out of the 6 most liked reviews 4 are one star that sum up perfectly why it's bad, one is 5 star from Patrick Rothfuss himself, and then another 5 star from a fan that met Pat in person, but then did nothing but talk about how bad the book was in the 5 star review.

    EDIT:

Once again, I'm not saying he is a bad writer. His writing is pretty fantastic if you disregard these very fixable problems like how to build to a climax, glacial pacing, and where to break up the books. The issue is the content. Literally hundreds of pages devoted to the most irrelevant, boring shit.

idk, I think the quality of the writing keeps the "boring uninteresting shit" from being boring uninteresting shit.

A Namer and the Douche, a tale of sympathy.

I'm about halfway through the second book of the series. The pacing is really REALLY bad but everything else is great. Good recommendation.

Elodin is the best. I even enjoy Auri despite every meeting pretty much being repetitive. It's when Dinnah shows up that I start to cringe.

So I've considered buying a Kindle Fire HD 16gb for a while now and I wanted to get some feedback from those that have one.

Things I'm looking to read on it:
Manga (got a few things in backlog that I want to read)
Comics (Deadpool, Batman, and maybe some other stuff)
Light Novels that are in pdf format (monogatari, haganai, oreimo, Legendary heroes, and a few others)
Regular books (Dresden files, Dunk & Egg novellas, 1984, Catch 22, and a few other books I haven’t read yet)

My question about Manga concerns the double pages. Do they show up well on Kindle or does it zoom on one side of the page and then I just slide the page around to read it accordingly?

Second, how well does the Kindle read pdf files? My friend has the older kindle with the keyboard and he said pdf’s showed up with small illegible text, will that be a problem?

Then I guess my final question will be if I can’t find an app that reads ePub, should I use Calibre to convert the files to MOBI?

I’ll probably use the kindle as well during D&D sessions for a Dice roller, note taking, looking up rules/items/etc. , or digital character sheet. Character sheet will probably be in pdf format. Note: I’m a PC in a campaign, not a DM. Just for clarification.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

went back to the posts from January for discussion on a Memory of Light and I feel a really weird sense.. holy crap it's finally over. I put off reading it due to school and lately I've been reading it even though I should have been studying

I've been reading these books since 1995, nearly 20 years. Book 7 was not yet out and every other Christmas it seemed a book would come out. With all the upset and uncertainty involved with Jordan's death followed by Sanderson's continuation of the marathon effort, I don't exactly know how to feel.

I'm not terribly upset with the ending, there's so many ways it could have awesomed, and there was sufficient awesomeness for me so..

    one question though

I've already read all of dresden and original dune and ender's game. Oh and jfc I hated house of leaves

They've been mentioned various times in this thread, but the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson is pretty good. So is the Prince of Nothing series.

I had trouble getting into the Malazan books. Even after reading the first two I'm unsure if I like the series. I had to take a break after reading the second Malazan book and started reading In the Balance by Harry Turtledove. Alternate History timeline where aliens invade Earth during WW2. I'm liking it, though not really for the characters. I'm mainly just reading it to see how things turn out

Just started the same book, feel kinda the same. I'm not getting attached to any of the characters, but the story itself is kinda cool. I am pretty amused that he basically just gave these interstellar traveling aliens approximately the same warfare capabilities of what we have now and then just threw them at WWII soldiers basically. If you've ever read his book Guns of the South, that one was pretty good too. He also wrote a big series, think it was 7 or 8 books about WWII but retold as a fantasy, dragons instead of planes, stuff like that.

Hinderstap. Book before I think, or maybe the one before that? Town where they all go crazy at night and murder each other, wake up back in their beds, no matter how far they run away during the day. Mat and company stopped in there before. Basically a town full of people who could run into battle and be 100% safe.
