    I finished The Fortress of Solitude by Johnathan Lethem a few weeks ago. Really enjoyed and would definitely recommend it. I'm currently working my way through Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain, and loving it. I'm sure it's been mentioned here already, but if you liked No Reservations or any other TV stuff he did, you'll definitely enjoy the book. I have a backlog of books from friends to get through and am trying to figure out what to move onto next;
    Already Dead by Dennis Johnson
    Filth by Irvine Welsh
The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut
Anyone ready through any/all of these and have a preference?

to be fair, I took the time to read back to January and actually saw those titles, just had trouble knowing which were names of the series or the titles within said series etc

Hinderstap. Book before I think, or maybe the one before that? Town where they all go crazy at night and murder each other, wake up back in their beds, no matter how far they run away during the day. Mat and company stopped in there before. Basically a town full of people who could run into battle and be 100% safe.
oh right, I forgot about that, didn't particularly like that section

I hate how you can read a book in a day and have to wait years for the next. I cant find anything new to read, I've read everything.

Just started the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. I thought I'd read them before, but turns out I was getting them confused with another series. I can't think of the character name or title. It's about a female spaceship captain who's father was a big-shot trader, and she inherits his neural implants. She wins a few scraps against, I think, Pirates? Then her nephew invents an FTL communicator, which she uses to revolutionize space warfare. Anyone know what it is?

That sounds right. Thanks! I'll add that to my backlog. It was fun, iirc.

ugh, this. Actually this is why I try to get into a series that is already complete. I have a few that I am stuck having to wait until the next release but only if its too good to pass up.

Some sad news, The Culture series is coming to an end in the worst way possible.

So I haven't been really keeping up with the kickstarter for Torment: Tides of Numenera but noticed on joystiq that
Kingkiller Chronicle series author Patrick Rothfuss has also joined up, his presence promised as a $3.25 million stretch goal. Both he and Avellone will contribute companion characters in addition to their other writing and design work.
    so that's pretty cool

Just looking around my room at what I have laying around (think I may have mentioned some in previous posts)
Xanth series - Piers Anthony. Light Fantasy. Very easy reading, but I find them a lot of fun. Even at 1 a day, you're looking at a month to catch up with the newest
Incarnations of Immortality Series - Piers Anthony again. 8 books in the series
Necroscope Novels - Brian Lumley. This is how I like my vampires. 14 main books. All related, but broken up in related trilogies.
Sano Ichiro mysteries - Laura Joh Rowland. Detective stories set in feudal Japan. Think 16 books now
I'll also buy anything that gets put out by Bentley Little, Robert R McCammon, and Neil Gaiman.

Reading through Harry Turtledove's Invasion series and I'm on Aftershocks right now.
Had my first encounter with something I thought was really lame in this book, not from a story perspective but how something was written (more specifically not written)

    Spoiler: show

Turtledove spent the whole series of books going from perspective to perspective of each character, knowing exactly what they know and what they're thinking, but then Turtledove decides to blatantly and lazily keep something a secret from the reader that not just 1 perspective character knows, but what 3 perspective characters know. When Yeager finds out the U.S. Nuked the colony ships it's first just written as "and then I discovered something horrible and I couldn't believe it but now I know why i'm in such danger!" without addressing what it was. And then repeat that with his son and Straha and they just refer it as "that thing that I know" or w/e. Stuck me as incredibly lame.

It was done more smoothly than all that, but I can see how you might not like that. Personally, I thought it was fine.

Just finished the audiobooks of the series and enjoyed them. Hitting up Song of Ice and Fire audiobooks for the next few weeks at work, after that hopefully I'll find some more good sci-fi to listen to.

Just one more of Turtledove's Colonization books to go and then I guess I'll give Malazan another go and see if the third book is enough to get me excited about the rest.
If not, hmmm not sure what to go onto next. Maybe the fourth Prince of Nothing book, though I did want to wait until the 6th book was out before I started the second trilogy.
