iirc, it's supposed to be three dimensional, simulationist, and crunchy as all get out.
Like, were talking more bookkeeping/playtime than experimental/rules level 3 Battletech.

Emperor of Thorns is out today! Go buy!
I'm going to get mocked for this, mostly because I haven't read it before, but:
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Without endorsing or criticizing any of her personal views expressed in the book, it was a really, really good read.
maybe. buts it the single worst ending to a book ever
The 40 page radio address in the final 100 pages was a bit overdone.
For anyone who has read it, does the Colonization trilogy of Harry Turtledove's Invasion series ever pick up? I'm about 80% through the first one and I feel like nothing has happened, honestly contemplating bailing on the series after I finish this one. I really liked the first four books but this one seems very slow.
Yes and no. That one is the slowest though.
yeah, the colonization series is a slower pace overall as it focuses much more on characters specifically than the greater world events.
I liked the Southern Victory series better, in retrospect, but I thought the Colonization series was still pretty cool. I kinda got the sense he wasn't done with it, though.
Finally got around to reading Raven's Shadow book 1 Blood Song and it was very good like others have mentioned, I recommend giving it a try. It kinda reminds me of the name of the wind.
Bought a new copy of Lord of the Rings. Got the 50th Anniversary hardcover. My childhood feels are returning.
Tom Bombadil is the best character ever.
Shadows of treachery anthology. Prince of crows and the lightening tower are pretty damn good.
Finished Malazan book #9 and finally starting the last book. Taken me awhile to get through it all, though I did stop occasionally between books to read other things because goddamn this series as the steepest learning curve of anything in any story i've ever read or watched. 9 books in and I'm still not sure why/how a lot of stuff is happening. Like the Shake. Still no idea what the deal is with them and what's going on. Might not help that I tend to speed read through those sections because not a single character or even their story interest me in the least.
Might read Elantris next. I like Brandon Sanderson but haven't read that or Warbreaker yet. Way of Kings either, but I want to hold off on that until more books for it are out.
both Elantris and Warbreaker were good.
Loved the Magic system in Warbreaker especially. Wish he would incorporate that in a series.
how did no one mention Anne Rice?
she has a lot worth reading, some of which reads like (altered) historical fiction, with the idea that vampires go back as far as the pyramids. I read so many books by her as I enjoyed the universe she had created, the idea that the older a vampire is the more powerful they are, despite the age of the body they were changed in
give each book a chance, I did put some down (can't recall which but they were a minority)
I don't recall much of any gay vampires although there might have been a couple
There's tons of gays and bis in Anne rice novels. Pretty much every main character has had sex with a man at some point.
i was about to say, exactly how much anne rice have you read?
