Seeing all the Words of Radiance stuff hitting up my twitter page makes me really want to start reading Way of Kings. But that's going to be one hell of a long series and I'm not sure I want to start another one of those right now with so many others I'm continually waiting on D:

oh man, Northworld, is that the one with the valkyries and the power suits and alternate planes and shit? i read that one (i dont think it was the whole series) a long, long time ago and i still remember a lot of it just because it was so fucking weird. I was pretty young, though, so I probably missed a lot of stuff.

Also, how is Star Carrier? I've seen it around in the kindle store but never picked it up because something more eye-catching showed up.

If you're still diggin' books in the style of Forever War and Starship Trooper, try the Orphanage series. It's pretty wild. If you don't mind some political intrigue with your military, try: David Weber's Honor Harrington books, Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga, Elizabeth Moon's Serrano series and Vatta's War series, and, for more emphasis on the political side, C.J. Cherryh's Foreigner series.

I'm loving this Safehold series. The first book felt like three books! Not from length, just from the pacing of the action and whatnot. Part-way into book 2. Political shenanigans, sail-and-cannon era naval battles, and advanced technology masquerading as holy relics. Also lots of parallels and references to Arthurian lore. Love it.

I haven't read this, but I'm virtually certain that Weber pulled the plot for the Safehold series from the third book of the Dahak/Armageddon series. The plots are just too similar.

Book 6 or 7 of the safehold series comes out February 14th, I've been waiting on it for a while. The previous book was pretty dry.

I'm *hoping* he gets them into space, but I think he might be enjoying the wet naval warfare/land warfare/political intrigue aspects too much and it never happens.

All in all, it's a fairly normal Weber series and it's pretty darn good.

Star Carrier is decent. Northworld is pretty strange but I've read it like 15 times. The story is really compelling. I'm going to start the Honor Harrington series soon but I've got a list to knock out before then. Thanks for the ideas, most of those books are on the list.

I finally got started on the first book in the Prince of Nothing series, I'm about done with part I of book 1. So far I am having a hard time staying focused when reading this book, whereas with ASOIAF I had to make myself put it down and go to sleep. When does the book start to gain speed?

I bought Divergent on iBooks for $3.99, Insurgent for $6.99(Full Priced) and Allegiant on Kindle ($3.99). There's a sale going on but I don't know how long it will last or if its already over.

I finished both Divergent and Insurgent last night and i'm half way through Allegiant, it's definitely a great series.

EDIT: Just finished Allegiant, I got dem feelz. Reminds me of the way I felt after finishing The Last of Us.

Just finished reading the series yesterday, damn good set of books.

Looking forward to the movie, but when I saw the actress they casted, she looks too old for the way I visualized the character. We shall see.

About to jump into Game of Thrones next, I'm sure that will keep me occupied for a while.

About to jump into Game of Thrones next, I'm sure that will keep me occupied for a while.

I feel dirty saying this, but what the hell: I love Game of Thrones the show, but when I tried to sit down and read the books (2009-ish), I got like 200 pages in and just put it away. The closest reason I can say on why I couldn't keep reading was that it was like reading a book version of Final Fantasy Tactics and I had already played that.

On the plus side, punching through some of my classics again, because why not. Halfway through the Count of Monte Christo, think I'll swing through the Foundation trilogy again. Haven't read that since the 90's.

Ahh, I haven't seen the TV series yet, I'm just going off recommendations from basically everyone and going in blind. I think it'll be better that way.

Then again, I read the Hunger Games books after having seen the first two movies and that didn't really ruin my enjoyment of the books (or the movies, for that matter), though there was a lot to compare between the books and the movies.

I recommend the books highly but they don't "gain speed." The story does more than make up for that.

i can see that. the first season stuck really close to the first book. you should stick it out, though. as it goes on, there is an increasing amount of backstory and details that get left out or changed. by the time you get caught up you'll be seeing a LOT of shit from the show in a new light, I think.

Just finished reading the Legion of the Damned series, now moving on to some of the Android: Netrunner books since I'm absolutely hooked on that game.

I finally read the Mistborn trilogy and really liked it. The 4th book in the universe is just awful though. Meshing those books and a western theme is kind of stupid.

Cauldron of Ghosts is out on e-ARC and A Mighty Fortress is out on all platforms. As per norm with David Weber, he wanders in the middle and ends with a smash. Good reads both.
